Joe Rogan has carved out a unique identity as the go-to guy for just about any topic, embracing the role of a “jack of all trades, master of none.” His wide-ranging curiosity and bold takes have helped turn him into a global media figure. But that same approach has also drawn sharp criticism, particularly from the medical community, who often take issue with his controversial stances and off-the-cuff commentary on specific issues of healthcare of government. This was exactly the case when he sat down for a chat with Cam Hanes during his #2316 episode of his JRE podcast.

While speaking to the guest, Rogan pointed out how being an expert doesn’t always lead to knowledge all the time. The UFC color commentator shared an incident where he had an argument with Bryan Callen.

There is no doubt that the 57-year-old is one of the fittest men in the circuit and has tried multiple ways to improve his health. While he doesn’t consider himself an expert, but can definitely guide people, and this is exactly what he tried to do with Callen. Rogan has always been vocal about using supplements to help the body recover faster after a certain age. But it seems Callen’s doctor doesn’t quite agree with the fact.

During the conversation with Hanes, Rogan said, “You know I had an argument with Brian Callen years ago because his doctor was telling him, You don’t need supplements. You just need a balanced diet”. That’s what his doctor was saying.”

He further added, ” I go, ‘Your doctor looks like s..t”. Like what are you talking about? Your doctor’s fat. He’s got a big pot belly. He’s got a big doughy face. He probably can’t run around the block. Shut the f—k up. Don’t listen to that guy.”

Rogan even went on to point out that the research that has been done on the use of vitamins on the body. He added, “There’s plenty of peer-reviewed papers that talk about the efficacy of vitamins. They are super beneficial for you. This is crazy talk. This appeal to experts just because you have a degree. You are not always right. You’re wrong all the time.” This is not the first time Rogan has challenged ‘experts’. During one of his conversations, he pointed out an instance of Aaron Rodgers to back his claims once again.

Joe Rogan once again points out the value of going against medical advice

In a recent episode (#2242) of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan opened up about his views on medical advice, specifically in relation to stem cell therapy. During a conversation with Bert Sorin, the president of Sorinex, a respected exercise equipment company, Rogan shared how he decided to ignore his doctor’s conventional advice and pursue stem cell treatment instead.

His decision to go against the grain sparked a discussion about alternative treatments and the limits of traditional medical guidance. Rogan also recounted a story from New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who played a key role in shifting his perspective on challenging traditional medical advice.

During the conversation, he said, “Aaron Rodgers was explaining this to me—that his doctors were telling him not to do stem cells after he got his Achilles fixed. He’s like, ‘What are you talking about? Yeah, like shut the f—k up.’ And so, of course, he did stem cells, and, of course, he went two ways too well, and, of course, he was back three months earlier than they thought he could ever be.”

At the end of the day, every person’s situation is different, and doctors are meant to act in the best interest of their patients. This philosophy also applied to Aaron Rodgers’ own experience with his orthopedic doctor, who tailored his care to fit his specific needs.

It’s a reminder that healthcare should be personalized. However, sometimes stepping outside the conventional path can lead to the right solutions. What are your thoughts on this approach?
