‘You’re Getting Old’: Jordan Chiles Confesses True Feelings About Life After the Paris Olympics

3 min read

Jordan Chiles isn’t settling for anything less than the best this NCAA season. We just wrapped up the 5th week of NCAA gymnastics action and guess what, she’s already been selected for the Big Ten Conference Gymnast of the Week thrice so far! And well, in a season where landing perfect 10s has become incredibly rare, she’s done that twice already. It’s clear- she’s still riding on that Paris high. In fact, she’s even recreating it this season.

For Jordan Chiles and the rest of Team USA’s golden girls, the Paris Olympics was the ultimate redemption tour. But she shouldered the big responsibility oh-so-perfectly, Performing in all four events in the team final and steering the team to a glistening gold. Also, in the floor exercise finals, she was the last to step on the mat, which means the pressure was on. But Chiles knew she made the most of the chance. But that isn’t all. Paris may have ended but the feeling of having gone through the high didn’t fade away for months. In fact, it still hasn’t.

Speaking to International Gymnast Media on February 5, Jordan Chiles opened up on getting back into the competitive mode with the NCAA so quickly after the busy 2024 roster. How did she adjust psychologically and technically? Here’s how! Chiles said, “When I first came back it was kind of hard because of everything that has been happening, from Paris and the tour. It was just very overwhelming. I still haven’t even taken time to be like, “Oh wow! I went to another Olympics!”

But the feeling gradually sinks in right? It did for Jordan Chiles too. And the Gold Over America Tour helped her substantially with it. “The tour kind of helped me change my mindset. I was doing school, some online classes and other stuff, trying to get my mind and my body in the flow of everything,” she said. But at one point all of this felt daunting. She had the team to help her catch up with everything, “OK, we compete every weekend, we have classes and all of this stuff,” it sounded a lot. But she wouldn’t change a single thing about this whirlwind.

Just one thing that there’s so much on her plate this season that Jordan Chiles joked, “My body is just now telling me, “Jordan, you’re getting old (laughs), you’re getting up there,” Clearly, she confesses, ” I can say it’s different coming back this year than it was my sophomore year.” Of course, the responsibilities as an NCAA gymnast must have increased, and the expectations. Plus, there’s just so much on her plate. But Chiles has never let the weight of all this show. Instead, she’s been nailing it so far!
