“You’re a Cruel Son of a B—”: Dana White & Co. Force Another UFC Star Into Retirement After Sacking 4 Fighters

5 min read

It hasn’t even been a week since Dana White axed four fighters from the UFC roster. The MMA promotion refused to stay affiliated wth Pedro Falcao and Cortavious Romious because they went on a 0-2 record. Lucas Alexander‘s 4-fight stint since 2022 saw him lose 3 of these fights. To make things worse, he missed weight in the last 2 of his bouts. However, Caolan Loughran was succeeding with 2 wins out of 4 fights in the UFC, and still got cut. And amidst this chaos, the UFC head honcho lost another fighter, named Dan Argueta

Taking to his Instagram profile, ‘The Determined’ shared a cascade of images highlighting his time in the UFC. Well, Argueta was on a 2-fight losing streak with his last fight ending up in a unanimous decision defeat despite him being 3.5 pounds over the bantamweight limit. And the two fights before his other loss ended up in back-to-back no-contests. Needless to say, Argueta was making headlines in a bad way with a 1-3 record in the UFC. And now, he has finally called it quits after 2 years in the organization.

In the caption, ‘The Determined’ wrote, “It’s with a heavy heart that today I’ve decided to hang up my gloves. After receiving news of the UFC not giving me the opportunity to finish out the final fight on my contract, I’ve ultimately decided to turn the page and start writing my next chapter. With that being said fighting indeed saved my life. I gave it my all every-time I stepped into an Octagon and that’s something I’m at peace with. This opportunity taught me more about myself than anything else. It molded me into the man that can handle becoming the best version of himself, it helped me find my best friend and soon to be beautiful wife, and it showed me that I CAN do anything I set my mind to.”

He went on to thank the people who stood behind him and apologized to them for being unable to achieve a bit more in the sport. It was clear that he had some big dreams, but the Gods of MMA had different plans for him. However, he did promise to stay true to his moniker and bring about the same level of enthusiasm in his future ventures. But before signing out, he took jibe at the job. Argueta continued, “To the roughest, toughest, most demanding job on earth (Next to being a parent). You’re a cruel son of a b—-, but I’ll always love what we had. This isn’t a maybe we’ll get back together. This is a goodbye.”

Well, more than 30 fighters have been removed from the UFC roster since January 2025. This includes the release of legends like Tony Ferguson, Holly Holm, and others. But today, we aren’t focusing on the fighters who retired. And that pushes us to discuss the UFC’s axing right after UFC 313.

Dana White releases 6 fighters right after UFC 313 announcement

Ferguson and Chris Weidman had already captured the attention of the fighting community with their retirement scenes by the end of February. However, after Alex Pereira lost the light heavyweight belt to Magomed Ankalaev, the organization let 6 more fighters go. The list included Cody Stamann, who ended his UFC tenure with a 7-7-1 record. Stamann even shared the Octagon with Said Nurmagomedov, Merab Dvalishvili, and even got to the 9th spot in the rankings. But his recent 3-fight losing streak pushed him out of the promotion.

Julio Arce, who actually won his last bout, also got cut from the roster. Taylor Lapilus was next, even though he was on a 2-fight winning spree. This was a cut that the entire fighting community was furious about. Another cut was Josh Culibao, who went on a 3-fight losing streak after he won 3 back-to-back UFC bouts. Jonathan Pierce had a similar story with a 5-4 record in the UFC. And the final name was Kleydosn Rodrigues. He missed weight twice and lost 3 out of 4 fights in the UFC.

Nevertheless, these cuts open up space for up-and-coming fighters to spread their wings. We’ve already seen the entry of Patricio Pitbull, and the return of Alexander Topuria this year. And with White’s habit of axing weak fighters, we might even get to witness a few fighters with the potential to rock the world of mixed martial arts, don’t you agree?

What are your thoughts about the UFC’s roster cuts? Do you think we can expect a few more fighters to lose their contracts in the coming days? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
