Yankees Fans Fume as Mets Seemingly Mock Crowd After Subway Series Win

5 min read

For decades, the New York baseball rivalry has played out like a sibling saga—the New York Yankees, a proud elder brother. Someone with a mantle of trophies, 27 world titles, and a rich history. And on the other hand, the New York Mets, the younger brother trying to carve their legacy in the same city. But in 2025, the narrative may be crumbling.

If history was not enough, the Mets got Juan Soto by paying even more than the Yankees and right under their nose. Not to forget, who the real king of baseball is has come up plenty of times. So it’s a move that stung the fans deeply in the Bronx.

Now they have gone an extra mile and swept the crosstown rivals in back-to-back games at Citi Field and even rubbed a little salt in the wound while they were at it.

Not the game loss, but what lit up the fanbase was what happened after. On the Citi Field massive jumbotron, the Mets ran a “fan thoughts” segment. And they mocked the Yankee fans and their followers. The thought bubbles popped above people’s heads, and they read, “The food’s way better here,” and “Can’t wait for Cowboys season!” The not-so-subtle jabs didn’t go unnoticed, and the New York Yankee fans were not having it.

New York Yankees fans furious with Mets’ disrespect

A Yankee fan mentioned that the Mets are the most insecure fans in the sport. And well, right now they might be simply riding on a high. After all, Jeff McNeil’s clutch 2-run homer in the 7th inning lifted the Mets to a 6-5 win. Then, a day later, the Mets again turned the fireworks up to 100. Nimmo kicked off the party with a grand slam, and Polar Bear followed with two home runs and five RBIs. This was the Yankees’ sixth straight loss, both strange and shocking for fans.

A user said he doesn’t understand how a team that hasn’t won anything in 30+ years can say anything. And well, right now even the Yankees are in a rough bout. The deja vu moment of what happened to them last year at the World Series seems to be making a comeback. Aaron Boone, Judge, and even Chisholm Jr. had to come to the rescue to say—it’s a phase. But they need help, and if not, then Mets fans like this can make fun of Yanks who are in a 48-41 slump.

A Yankee supporter pointed out that the Mets don’t want to be a little brother, but the whole organization is gimmicky. And this is a thought many fans in MLB subscribe to. Take, for example, the Soto incident. The team paid not just the $760 million, which was already a lot; they even paid him a huge signing bonus, security-free premium tickets, and more. For many, it felt over the top and unnecessary.

Echoing a similar thing, a user mentioned that the Mets have real little brother energy. But the truth of the matter is that this little brother is riding high. They are 51-38 and on top of the NL East. Not like they didn’t have their low moments; they did, but they are reborn. They have won five to start July after a rather sad June. And this momentum shift is what they are loving for sure—and hence the making fun and taunting.

One user mentioned that it is cringe. And sure, the Yankee-Red Sox rivalry is the most talked about, but the crosstown rivalry is one you can’t ignore, too. The first game of the Subway Series wouldn’t have attracted over 45,000 fans. They want to see the rivalry, the tension pour in, and to see stars face off from Judge to Stanton to Alonso and Lindor. Plus, doesn’t everyone remember the chaos that came up when ‘who is the king of baseball in NYC’ came into light? Even Juan Soto was dragged in!

Things are tense in the New York baseball scene, and for the Yankees, more so. They have lost their position in the division, and now even the Toronto Blue Jays are ahead of them. They need to act fast and maybe get reinforcements before the trade deadline.
