Wrestling Fans Intensify OSU vs Iowa Rivalry Post Jax Forrest’s Commitment: “This One Hurts”

4 min read

After Dreshaun Ross, we have Stillwater’s fresh pick on the plate! The nation has already called Taylor’s recruiting class one of the best, selecting excellent wrestlers with great skills and talent to put on the mat. Now, with Jax Forrest, the #2 recruit of the class of 2026 Class of Big Board Wrestler, committing to David Taylor, OSU’s future looks promising.

And I didn’t use the phrase ‘committing to David Taylor’ just for the sake of it. The Bishop McCort boy himself said that he shares similarities with the coach and that he always wanted to fight for the Cowboys. “The biggest thing I kinda noticed the last couple weeks going through this and knowing that my choice was going to be narrowed down was just the similarities it seemed that me and David had — I think (that) was the leading (factor),” he said. And if you think it’s just the similarity between the Magic Man and him that got him to make this huge decision, then you’ve got another thing coming.

Well, Taylor’s got some bling that young Jax Forrest wants for himself. “He’s (Taylor) an Olympic gold medalist, NCAA champ. He’s done all the things I want to achieve and I think the fact that we’re similar in a lot of ways with how we wrestle, how we are off the mat, I think he’s somebody who can get me to achieve those goals,” he added. Now, about the goals. Maybe his schoolmate Bo Bassett will have a thing or two to say about that.

Now that the two Bishop McCort boys have signed for two fierce rivals, fans couldn’t help but get in on the future rivalry on social media. And the rivalry isn’t just a two-way one as one fan wrote, “I think this one hurts. At least it wasn’t Iowa!” Not pointing any fingers, but we wouldn’t be surprised if this is a Penn State fan. Only securing #20 Sam Herring till now, the Nittany Lions don’t seem to be having the best of recruitment seasons. But for OSU and Iowa fans, things are only going to get more exciting.

Jax Forrest and Bo Bassett: A rivalry in the making

One fan typed, “Imagine a jax vs Bo in a iowa vs Okst dual at some point? Feel like Jax is gonna grow, thatd be p cool to see.” Woah, this seems like fans have already started imagining a fierce match between the two! And honestly, with overall records of 111-0 and 118-3 for Bassett and Forrest respectively, who wouldn’t want that? There’s more, with one stating, “It’s starting to look like Bo committed to the third best school.” Now, we are not sure what this fan means considering OSU is the 2nd ranked school out there, but it could very well be an Iowa fan upset over how Forrest didn’t follow the footsteps of Spencer Lee like his schoolmate.

While rival fans cried for the absence of Jax Forrest in their teams, OSU fans welcomed him on a good note. One of them wished him luck; he wrote, “Good luck Jax! Cowboys are getting a good one!!!” Well, with multiple Fargo and Super 32 titles, and a U17 silver medal to his name, there’s no reason why Cowboy fans wouldn’t be elated to welcome him to the family: “Let’s gooo!!! Great family! Congrats!”

But one OSU fan, although happy with the commitment had a question: “Awesome, does that give us the #1 class for the year now?” To answer that, yes. It does. As things stand, with three top-25 recruits, OSU has the top recruiting class this time. But when the new recruits hit the mat, who do you think will come out on top? OSU or Iowa? Or will it be Penn State despite not being able to land one of the top three? Let us know in the comments.
