WNBA Refs Reeling as Injured Caitlin Clark Protests and Commands Indiana Fever from Sidelines

3 min read

The last time Caitlin Clark missed a game was back in November 2017. Yes, she was just a sophomore at Dowling Catholic High School. Think about that…seven straight years of being an absolute iron woman on the court. In a sport where college stars sit out entire seasons, Clark didn’t miss a single regular or postseason game. Not one at Iowa. Not one in her rookie WNBA season. But, well… the streak finally broke. And here we are.

On May 28, 2025, Indiana Fever took on the Washington Mystics at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore. A packed venue with 11,614 fans, but no Caitlin Clark in uniform. The reason is a left quad strain she picked up during the May 24 loss against the New York Liberty. The word is, she’s gonna be out for at least two weeks, maybe more, depending on how long it takes her quad to bounce back.

But you know even when she’s not playing, Clark somehow still ends up stealing the spotlight. While this injury will take time to heal, it didn’t keep her from traveling with her team. First, she made the headlines in a Taylor Swift tee. Then she was seen cradling little Zayn, the baby of assistant coaches Karima Christmas-Kelly and Austin Kelly.

And just when you think she is going to kick back and be a chill spectator during the game, she flips into coach mode. In the second quarter, Sophie Cunningham picked up an offensive foul. Coach Stephanie White was already up on the sideline, but Clark jumped out of her seat, animated as ever, and started talking to the ref.

The Fever-Mystics broadcast just mentioned that Caitlin Clark, who isn’t playing tonight, spoke to the ref to ask them to review a play.

100% tracks.

She was seen pointing things out, asking for a review like she’s got a whistle around her neck. Throughout the game, her energy was infectious from the courtside. She kept hyping the team, walking the sideline. We already know that earlier Coach White said, “It’s a great opportunity for Caitlin to watch the game from the sidelines… To grow and almost like a coaching kind of mindset, and see some different things that we might be talking about on film, addressing in practice, to see it develop in live action.”

Clark indeed ran with it.

Developing Story….
