Ask Michael McDermott what it feels like to be a member of the Augusta National Golf Club, and he will confidently let you in on a few details. The membership comes with many perks, including a green jacket (that you have to pay for) and access to the property’s state-of-the-art amenities and facilities. But why is a member of this exclusive golf club currently swinging it at Augusta National? Well, part of the reason comes from the fact that Michael McDermott is an amazing amateur golfer.
McDermott is an accomplished amateur golfer, having been named the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Player of the Year five times between 2000 and 2008. He has also won multiple Crump Cups, regarded as the premier mid-amateur and senior golf event. Notably, at the 2003 U.S. Amateur, he defeated future PGA Tour winner J.B. Holmes.
With an odd number of players making the cut, Augusta National member Michael McDermott is playing with Tom Kim today.
