Who Won the Congressional Baseball Game 2025? Game Result, Scores, One-on-One Record and More

While the MLB season is on with its usual drama and fireworks, baseball fans were treated to a different kind of showdown this week. One that had more to do with suits than cleats. Yes, it’s that time of the year again. The annual Congressional Baseball Game took place on Wednesday night in Washington DC, offering a rare moment of bipartisan rivalry on the field. And, guess what? The result also followed a similar pattern as the country’s current political trajectory.

The tradition began in 1909 as a friendly pastime among Capitol Hill colleagues. Something that has now evolved into one of Washington’s most anticipated summer traditions. The Nationals Park got crowded all over again with the lawmakers.

For one evening, Republicans and Democrats trade their suits for jerseys and leave the legislative wrangling behind. Instead of clashing over the debt ceiling, they argue balls and strikes. A breath of fresh air indeed! So, what was the game’s result?

Well, the result mirrored the current state of partisan momentum. Fox News reported the Republicans clinched their fifth consecutive victory in the Congressional Baseball Game on Wednesday night, cruising past the Democrats with a commanding 13-2 win at Nationals Park in Washington.

Yes, consecutive wins for the Republicans over the last 5 years. Should we take any notes out of that? Ahh, let’s keep the politics aside!

The game started with the GOP getting on the board first in the second inning, capitalizing on a throwing error by the Democratic defense. The Republicans further widened the gap by launching a rally in the third. That stretched their lead to 5-0.

But, just when the game was going one way, the Democrats narrowed the deficit to 5-2 and momentarily shifted the energy in the ballpark. However, the Republicans erupted in the fourth inning, plating five runs and blowing the game wide open with a 10-2 advantage. Not an evenly fought game, we would say, but it was intense.

If you check some of the clips going around, you would see how dedicated the Texas representative, August Pfluger, was in his efforts. That diving play by Pfluger at third base was pro standard written all over it.

The best player on show, however, was the Florida representative, Greg Steube. He pitched 5 innings, gave up 2 runs, and 7 SOs. The GOP’s own Paul Skenes!

The GOP has won five straight Congressional Baseball Games and the margins haven’t exactly been nail-biters. Except for the Republicans’ 13-12 win in 2021, all games went one-sided. For instance, the 31-11 win for the GOP last year was a serious rout over the Democrats.

But apart from the score, there was more that caught the eye in the Congressional Baseball Game.

The Congressional Baseball Game offered a stark contrast in terms of visuals

What stole the spotlight was the outfit of the two teams as well. While the Republicans took the field in unified red jerseys and MAGA hats, the Democrats took a more casual approach. They sported a mix of jerseys and caps from their home states. Patchwork coalition against a coordinated team?

Another notable difference this year? The absence of protestors. Remember last year’s game? Climate activists rushed the field and disrupted play. But this year’s contest went off without interruption. Something went well this time.

And, you know what, there are also some interesting records in place in the Congressional Baseball Game. For instance, California’s Democratic senator Alex Padilla boasts a perfect batting average of 1.000. Yes, you read that right. That’s a number that would outshine even the Yankees slugger Aaron Judge, who is currently hitting a scorching .394 in the MLB.

Well, jokes aside, amid all the bipartisan political fights, the Congressional Baseball Game offered a sense of positivity. But no change in the outcome again!
