Who Is Justin Thomas’s New Caddie? PGA Tour Pro’s Bagman’s Lifestyle, Experience, and More Explored

4 min read

In the past 4 years, this is the third time that Justin Thomas has had a new looper carrying his bag at the course. Earlier, JT worked with Jimmy Johnson, but their split in 2021 resulted in a story of changes for the 31-year-old. After Johnson, Jim “Bones” Mackay joined for three years till 2024, then Matt “Rev” Minister joined hands with Thomas as his primary caddie. However, now with him struggling with a back injury, it seems that the partnership saw another change in 2025.

Recently, at the Masters, Thomas partnered with Joe Greiner and even shared gratitude on social media. He wrote, “I’m very lucky Joe Greiner is a great friend and able to help me out last minute.” But who is Joe Greiner?

Getting to know Joe Greiner better

Greiner is a former golfer at the Vista Valencia Golf Club in California who aimed to become a professional golfer. He played collegiate golf at the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California. Interestingly, he is a childhood friend and golfing partner of Max Homa. However, instead of joining the PGA Tour as a professional golfer, his preference took a turn as he became a professional looper. Even for his admiration towards sports, he earlier shared his realization. He said, “I realized one day that I wanted to pursue this as a career and that this is something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Now he has been a professional caddie for almost 12 years and has worked with PGA Tour professionals. Back in 2013, his journey began with his childhood friend Homa. The partnership endured for over a decade and proved fruitful, as Homa won most of his PGA Tour titles during their time together. But just before the Masters, the news of a surprise came in about Homa and Greiner’s split. The American professional shared with the PGA Tour, confirming the news, “We have parted ways, and it will be sad to see him go. I’ll always be grateful to have walked the fairways with one of my best friends.” Even later, he also shared that it wasn’t his decision to part ways.

But the timing of the split and Minister’s back injury within days offered him another role at the start of the Masters. Soon after the partnership, the performance even saw upside for JT. In the Masters, he was placed T36, and now with their pairing together at the RBC Heritage, the golfer is in a 36-hole lead after 2 years. He was last leading at the Farmers Insurance Open 2023.

Apart from the wide information about his professional life, the looper has kept his personal life private. However, there is a little shared through social media.

Uncovering the life of Justin Thomas’s new caddie

The previous partnership with Max Homa was way more than just a professional relationship. The golfer and caddie have known each other for almost a lifetime as they met for the first time at the age of 6. Their personal bond was still alive, as can be seen in the social media post of the golfer. Even for Cam, Homa’s son, he goes running to Greiner than to his father (as per a social media post from Homa’s account). It showcases the great bond in the two.

Apart from that, Greiner has made subsequent development in his personal life, too. Though he has not shared or updated about it. But through sources and social media, the news found the light. The professional looper married Mayla Greiner on January 12th, 2023. The Caddie Network has shared the happy news along with the memories of the wedding. Though the hints about the pair even came out through the social media account of Homa in 2022. He posted a photo of himself with his wife, caddie, and Mayla Greiner with a wholesome caption, which read, “First time we had the whole nucleus on site with 3 of my closest friends there too.

Despite the bond between the two, the golfer and caddie’s switch will turn them into course rivals. However, the relationship between personal life and professional life is different. Both the caddie and the golfer have found their new partner. In fact, the partnership between Justin Thomas and Greiner seems to bloom better than expected, with the results they have achieved.
