Clemson tight end Ian Schieffelin, a former basketball standout, was arrested this past weekend on suspicion of DUI. The incident was confirmed by head coach Dabo Swinney, who announced that Schieffelin will miss some games to start the season as a result.
The news first came to light via sports journalist Chapel Fowler, who shared on X, “Clemson football TE Ian Schieffelin was arrested on suspicion of DUI over the weekend, as first reported by @MDavidHood. Dabo Swinney says in a statement that the team is aware, and Schieffelin will ‘miss some competition to start this season as a consequence.”

Schieffelin, standing 6 feet 8 inches and weighing 240 pounds, transitioned from basketball to football this year. He joined the Tigers’ football team in May 2025 after completing his basketball eligibility. Despite limited football experience, Schieffelin was expected to contribute to the tight end position, which had limited depth following the graduation of the previous starter. Schieffelin’s absence will be felt, but the team is expected to adjust accordingly.
This is a developing story…
