Per York Press, in 2023, Paul Wilson said, “I went with her to the medal ceremony, then she was given it afterwards, when they were given the presentation box.” It was only two years of effort, and Wilson helped Chase Jackson win the world title. But when did he start his coaching career? Well, he took up coaching in 2005, after competing in discus for the City of York Athletic Club (AC). But what about his own competitive career?

Chase Jackson’s coach, Paul Wilson, is a former discus thrower himself and held records for the U17 age group for Yorkshire and the North of England. But soon enough, his career seemed to end as he suffered a career-ending knee injury at just 17. And now working as a coach along with a job as a local electrical retailer manager.

From 1987 to 2000, Paul even became the Special Olympics’ community coordinator, and later again from 2008 to 2016. Chase Jackson’s coach has helped Brantford athletes in various sports, including track and field, swimming, softball, golf, bocce, bowling, soccer, powerlifting, curling, snowshoeing, and basketball. He has given many national, provincial, and world-class athletes.

Paul coached throws in Great Britain for many years after helping chase Ealy’s career back to life. Before relocating to York Sport in Heslington, where Chase and Scott have joined him for training, he started out at the original Huntington setup. Paul Wilson’s career achievements also include the 2016 Coach of the Year Award at the England Athletics Yorkshire and Humber Regional Awards.

How did Paul Wilson help Chase Jackson shape her career?

Per the YouTube channel on Daniel McQuaid, Chase Jackson said two years ago, “We kind of just, like, worked with what we had because me and Paul didn’t have much time before the season really kicked off, right?” She further added, “And so now that we have, like, a full off-season to work on stuff, we’ll probably add a couple more things and see how we feel with those. But I think it’s overall positive, and I think it’s a good sign that we really only worked on, like, my entry this whole time—and I think I have a lot more stuff to fix.”

The coaching style of Paul Wilson is more partnership than dictatorship, and he always tries to understand the athlete, like what and how they feel.
