The UFC is always recruiting the best fighters to their roster and giving a platform to new talent. Following this tradition as usual, Dana White and Co. gave the golden ticket to 31-year-old Carlos Prates back in 2023, and the Brazilian hasn’t disappointed yet. Since his debut in UFC, ‘The Nightmare has won 4 back-to-back bouts inside the Octagon and is now going to headline UFC Kansas against Ian Garry on April 26 later this month.
We know all about Prates’ fight resume, his stellar ‘Fighting Nerds’ team, but what about his family? As he has become more prominent in the UFC roster, fans have naturally become more curious about his family background and relationships. So, let’s take a deep dive and see whether he has a life partner and a family of his own!
Carlos Prates’s relationship status in 2025: Is the UFC star married?
There is not much information available about Carlos Prates and his marital status in the public domain. However, we do have information about his daughter, and he has spoken about his child before. Inside the Octagon, he might be a vicious striker, but outside of it, he is a soft-hearted family man.
The Brazilian is inspired to be better by his role as a father, and during UFC 305 in Perth, he got the opportunity to spend a lot of quality time with his daughter, who lives in Australia. “My daughter is there, and I want to fight there again,” he conveyed to UFC.com. “She took me to see kangaroos, and we had an amazing 10 days together. I want to go back, and now it’s in Sydney, which is exactly where my daughter lives.”
His enthusiasm for fighting in the land down under comes only because his daughter lives there, and he truly is a doting father. Other than his daughter, his family by connection is his coach and the Fighting Nerds team. But where does he come from? Where was he raised? Let’s get to know more about his roots, shall we?
Carlos Prates’s background and early life
‘The Nightmare’ was born in Brazil and is one of the few UFC stars who have mastered the art of 8 limbs. He had started to nurture his combat sports skills at the renowned Vale Top Team gym during his teenage years. The #13 welterweight star had mentioned to UFC that he had started training in Muay Thai at 15 to avoid getting into trouble. Prates said, “I was having a lot of trouble with bad choices in life, then my mum came to take me to the gym to train and make me calm down and try to learn martial arts philosophy.” Moreover, he also has experience in training for Muay Thai in Thailand, the home of this martial arts style.
The Brazilian had a pretty hard childhood and was raised by a single mother in Taubaté, São Paulo, Brazil. Naturally, such a stressful environment from a young age took a toll on his mental health, and he started smoking in his teenage years. He even admitted that his coach and MMA eventually saved his life. As per the Fighting Prophets Instagram page, the Brazilian UFC star had uploaded a carousel of old pictures in his account with a thoughtful caption.
He articulated his gratitude and wrote, “When I think about my childhood, I think of my friends who lost their lives to crime. My life could be 100% different. If it wasn’t for fighting, I don’t know if I’d be alive, doing something else, or even in jail. I met the right person at the right time, my coach.”
Prates has all the support of his family at The Fighting Nerds, along with his mother and daughter. This will surely give him a boost of motivation before his recent fight against Ian Garry. Do you think he will add another win to his UFC resume? Tell us in the comments below.
