Stopping someone like Damian Lillard from threepeating in the NBA All-Star 3-point contest is no easy feat. But doing it definitely put Miami Heat‘s Tyler Herro on a lot of people’s maps. Finally, the entire world was finding out something the Heat faithful have always known: Tyler Herro is one of the best players in the NBA.
But two others now walk on the path that Tyler has paved. They are his brothers, Myles and Austin Herro. So, join us today to reflect on the journeys they are on, moulded by their attempt to carve out their own legacies away from their older brother’s shadow.
Who are Tyler Herro’s brothers, Myles and Austin Herro? Where and when did their hoop journey begin?
Tyler Herro is the oldest of the three children born to Chris and Jen Herro. He’s the older brother of Myles and Austin Herro. Austin is a college basketball player who plays for the South Carolina Gamecocks and Myles is a talented guard who plays for Whitnall.
While hooping unites these brothers, they’re set apart by some of their other pursuits. Take Austin, for example. He’s not just a college baller, he’s also a content creator. His self-titled YouTube channel sits at 51k subscribers even though he hasn’t uploaded anything in the past year! But even with these undertakings, one thing is for certain.
Basketball courses through the veins of all three Herro brothers. They’re all extremely passionate about it in their own way. However, it’s this passion that may have led the youngest brother, Myles, to do something he may soon come to regret.
Which high school does Myles Herro attend? Why did he go viral recently?
Myles attends Whitnall High School in Wisconsin. This is the same high school his older brothers went to while they were growing up. Myles plays as a guard and he’s very well-regarded as a prospect, averaging more than 20 points per game. But amid the glimmer of him showcasing D-I potential, he recently jeopardized all this when he instigated a fight between Whitnall and then opponents, Waterford.
During the Wisconsin state playoffs, Myles’s team lost to Waterford, 56-49, in a neutral venue. Then, per tradition, the teams met at the half-court to shake hands. Normal stuff, right? Well, it didn’t stay that way for long. Tempers began to flare as soon as Herro started chirping at Waterford’s guard, Caden Gustafson.
We don’t really know what ticked him off, other than the loss. But as soon as Myles came face to face with his Waterford counterpart, he shoved him off-balance!

Myles had to be restrained by his teammates as he charged at Caden. Even while his teammates held him back, he continued to scream at Gustafson! Meanwhile, Gustafson stood behind the scorer’s table with his hands out, still in disbelief that something like this was even happening. With no one backing down, things devolved into chaos really quickly…
Both teams jawed at each other, harsh words were exchanged. All because Myles inexplicably lost his temper in a game, which should have been bittersweet at best after he logged his 1000th high school basketball point despite the defeat.
Tyler’s brother may have turned off a lot of schools/universities’ interest in him when it’s time for college. After all, no one wants a hothead on their team. Speaking of which, he already has scholarship offers from Western Illinois and Cal-Poly.
Myles’s incredible talent and the fact that this seems like a one-off incident mean there’s still a chance he can shake this reputation. Perceptions take months, sometimes years, to change in the hoops world, isn’t it?
Nevertheless, so far, Myles is still trying to secure his legacy as a Whitnall great. However, his older brother, Austin Herro, is on a journey toward the NBA after having cemented himself as a standout player in his time at Whitnall.
What does Austin Herro do for a living? Which college does he attend?
Austin Herro decided that he wanted to carve his own path in the world of college basketball. So, he chose to play for the University of South Carolina in the SEC despite offers from other colleges. Austin told the world about his decision through a post on Instagram. “Write your own story,” he proudly wrote in the caption.
However, Austin’s college career didn’t kick off in the most traditional way. You see, instead of playing his freshman year right after graduating, Austin chose to redshirt in his freshman year. This meant he worked behind the scenes to hone his skills following his high school graduation. When Herro arrived, he was 160 pounds and he aimed to begin his season around 185 pounds!
“I’ve needed to get stronger, getting into the weight room,” Herro said.
“They’re always on me about eating and stuff like that. I’m still trying to gain weight, which will keep happening in the offseason. I can see big gains in my bench press. I can feel my body getting a lot stronger,” Austin continued.
But this gamble paid off for him, as his talent and dedication to his craft meant the University of South Carolina offered him a scholarship as a guard for the Gamecocks.
So far, though, Austin hasn’t brandished his skills as well as he’d like to for the Gamecocks. He’s only made 10 appearances for his team this season. But there’s still plenty of time left for him to show the abilities that helped him earn the scholarship!
With the runs the Herro brothers are on right now, we may end up seeing them all in the NBA within the next 5 years or so. And who knows? Perhaps we’ll see them all on the same team, trying to bring home 3 rings to their parents in Wisconsin!
