Who Are Paul George’s Parents? Everything to Know About 76ers Star’s Support System

5 min read

Given how much Paul George went through early in his career, he had every right to crib and complain. He could have done so after the nasty injury before the 2014 FIBA World Championships, where he fractured his right leg. He could have done it when the world was against him after he left the Indiana Pacers. But he managed to persevere. How?

Everything comes down to the perspective he gained from watching his mother battle through insane adversity. “It built character in me. It built toughness in me,” said the Sixers star. But what happened exactly? Let’s answer that question today as we explore more about the Sixers star’s parents.

Who is Paul George’s mother Paulette? What health concerns did she face?

When Paul was only a 6-year-old, his mother, Paulette, suffered a stroke that left her in a bad way. This left her hospitalized for many weeks and she remained bedridden for nearly two years after that. “She wasn’t talking. She couldn’t say anything to us. That was hard to see,” revealed Paul, watching his mother going through the illness and how it affected him back then. He’s grown much stronger since.

And that’s due in no small part to the example Paulette set for him. “I saw her have her bad days and how she pushed through. She was just a strong woman,” he said. To this day, his mother remains partially paralyzed on her left side.

But that doesn’t stop her from living a full life. That’s just the woman PG13’s mother is. And despite how bleak this situation was, some good things came out of it.

Paul made it his life’s mission off the court to help spread awareness about the stroke risks. He starred in a PSA for the American Stroke Association. His mother appeared alongside him, and the two advised viewers on how to recognize the warning signs of a stroke. But that’s not all, Paul has also hosted benefit dinners for families affected by this issue.

It’s clear that PG13 wouldn’t be the man he is today without the grit, toughness, and compassion instilled in him through watching his mother, Paulette’s struggles. But did you know that he owes his name, Paul George, to a unique tradition in his family? One that he upheld during the birth of his own son.

Who is Paul George’s father? What does he do for a living?

The PG13 we know and love is actually PG V. Yes, Paul George is the 5th man in his family to have this name. His father was Paul George IV. What about his grandpa? He was named Paul George III and so on. You see, it’s been a longstanding tradition in the George family and they don’t seem to want to deviate from it anytime soon. His dad spilled the beans about all this when he appeared on his son’s podcast.

But the Sixers star’s father was almost named something else. “My grandfather, his name was Paul George. And then my Dad, he was the first child, so he was a junior. And then, my Dad, they had like another son before me, and he passed away. I think he was like six months old. So, when I came along, he still wanted a Paul George. So, that’s how I became another Paul George,” he explained.

But Paul George Sr. was ultimately the name he got and the one passed down to his son. However, apart from his inclination to adhere to these traditions, we don’t know much about the man who supported his wife through her illness while also doing a great job of raising his children. Well, we do know he wasn’t a professional athlete. However, the details of his profession remain scarce.

Nevertheless, we do know some things about his background and roots.

What is Paul George’s parents’ nationality? Where are they from?

Paul George Sr. and Paulette Ann George are American nationals born on American soil. They’re as American as apple pie. But they are of African-American descent and that means so is Paul George!

Paul George’s story is about more than basketball—it’s about family and honoring the people who shaped him. His mother’s strength through her stroke taught him toughness, while his father’s dedication kept their family grounded. He’s carried those lessons with him, not just on the court but in life.

PG13 is who he is because of them and their influence is a reminder that the most formidable battles often shape the strongest people.
