Laeticia Amihere was drafted 8th overall in the 2023 WNBA draft by the Atlanta Dream and became the first player of Ghanaian-Ivorian descent to be drafted in the league. She went on to play two seasons with the Atlanta Dream before being waived by the team ahead of the 2025 season. She later went on to sign with the Golden State Valkyries and showed her incredible basketball abilities by scoring 20 points in their first preseason game against the LA Sparks. Head Coach Natalie Nakase praised Amihere by saying, “Laeticia brings that combination of speed and athleticism that thrives in an up-tempo system. She’s a versatile defender with length who protects the rim and plays with tremendous effort on both ends of the floor. Her ability to impact the game in multiple ways fits well with how we want to play.

However, Amihere was then waived by the Valkyries before the start of the 2025 season to make the final roster cuts. She is now a free agent and may get a chance to play for another team in the season if she’s fortunate via hardship contracts. Her journey in the W might be going through a tough phase, but there is no reason to doubt her capabilities. Amihere is an NCAA champion with the University of South Carolina and was the first female Canadian to dunk in a game at age 15. She, however, could not have done all this without the support of her parents.
