Over three years, the sixth-seeded Tigers have clinched their second College World Series Title and eighth overall. Leading the Tigers was their starting pitcher, Anthony Eyanson, who happens to be MLB Pipeline’s No. 66 Draft.
His journey, especially beyond baseball and the championship stage, is deeply rooted in a supportive family. Brought up in Lakewood, California, Anthony is the son of Kristen and Jeff Eyanson. Both his mom and dad have played a significant role in shaping his morals, work ethic, and discipline. Interestingly, his dad happens to be a longtime fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Even before donning the LSU Tigers jersey, the teenage version of Anthony was often found in the stands of UCLA’s Jackie Robinson Stadium. That’s where he first dreamt of pitching one day on a championship stage. He used to soak in Bruins games, and it kind of became a ritual for him.

Anthony Scott Eyanson has become a name to watch in college baseball after his stunning pitching for the LSU Tigers at the College World Series. Behind his success has always been his grounded family, shaping him into the young athlete he is today.
Anthony, born on October 9, 2004, in Long Beach, California, is the son of proud parents Kristen and Jeff Eyanson. Jeff, his father, is a professor. Mother Kirsten works at a chiropractic office. Throughout his childhood, Jeff and Kristen laid a foundation for Anthony’s discipline and zeal.
He was raised in a huge family in Lakewood, California. Anthony has three brothers—Andrew, Joseph, and Blake—and two sisters—Madyson and Alexandria. And before Anthony ever stepped on the mound, he had a painful battle that almost affected everything around his life.
It all began when the future LSU right-hander was just hanging out with his cousin in his backyard. It was a hot day in SoCal as they were playing with water balloons. The heat prompted Eyanson to take his shirt off to prevent it from getting drenched.
Just a month later, a one-of-a-kind disease, achalasia, made Eyanson go from 107 pounds to 75. He drastically lost so much weight that his mother could see his bones through his skin. “I had to kind of put myself in check because I could feel myself starting to tear up and choke up! and I was like, ‘What am I looking at right now?’,” his mom shared.
Achalasia doesn’t let food pass into the stomach. It’s often seen in adults between 25 and 60. The reports say that achalasia affects barely 5% of kids under 16. But for Eyanson, it started getting worse when he couldn’t get food past his throat. He always had to carry a container to spit into because of excessive salivation.
His family couldn’t see him suffer. Kristen rushed Eyanson to the doctor. After she reached his son, both of them were sent to an emergency room in Long Beach Memorial Hospital. He was admitted for 15 days as he finally received a trusted treatment for his condition.
Everything started getting a bit better after Eyanson underwent a Heller Myotomy surgery that treats his disease. Eventually, he started recovering. And fast forward to now, he’s an LSU Tiger star!

He was just 10 when he battled with such a rare digestive disease. Still, that never affected his passion for baseball. He was evidently weak and thin, but he never gave up on pitching and playing at third base for his 10-and-under all-star team. His proud dad recalls to this day that Anthony never missed any game. In fact, the team he used to play for won the East Long Beach Pony Mustang back then.
During his time at UC San Diego, Eyanson recorded a stunning 3.07 ERA across 82 innings. His impressive performance helped him earn a spot on the US Collegiate National Team. Then came the most life-changing chapter – his LSU days. There, initially, he had a spot in the weekend starting rotation. And looks at him now…
