Where Is Paddy Pimblett From? Ethnicity, Religion, Accent & More

4 min read

Netizens seemed to have found a weird connection between Paddy Pimblett and Conor McGregor. No, it’s got nothing to do with their fighting styles, but their brash personas and the similarity in their accent. And that has given rise to a boatload of confusion. You see, Pimblett, unlike the former Irish double champion, carries the British flag on his shoulders.

So where do Pimblett’s roots come from? It is indeed one of the most asked questions in the fighting community. Without any further ado, let’s dive right into it.

Is Paddy Pimblett Irish or British? Ethnicity & nationality

On the 1st of March, 1995, ‘The Baddy’ was born to an English family, in the port city of Liverpool. His father, Mark Pimblett, is a pretty well-established businessman. On the other hand, Jackie Pimblett, the MMA fighter’s mother, ensures that their home runs without any problems. Pimblett also has two siblings. His sister, Kristy Nunen, doubtlessly supported Pimblett’s fighting career. However, not much is known about their elder brother.

With Liverpudlian blood running down in his veins, ‘The Baddy’ belongs to the Caucasian ethnicity of Liverpool, who hail from Irish and Welsh ancestors. However, his loyalty lies with the ones known as Scousers. But we’ll come to that real soon.

Needless to say, the world of mixed martial arts attracted the British fighter from an early age. Right after graduating from a private school in England, Pimblett opted to take up martial arts as a profession.

Pimblett’s record speaks about his fighting prowess. With 22 wins and just 3 losses, the Englishman is currently on an 8-fight winning streak. On top of that, he is one of the few undefeated fighters in the UFC. Without a doubt, training with Paul Rimmers and Hampson at the Next Generation MMA, Liverpool, has worked wonders for the lightweight fighter. It does seem like his roots pushed him further up in the fighting scenes.

But that’s about his origins, ethnicity and where he lives. But is ‘The Baddy’ religious? Let’s find out.

Which religion does Paddy Pimblett follow?

Back in 2022, ‘The Baddy’ made an intelligent remark while talking about how conversations about fighter pay annoyed him. He said, “It also annoys me when all the fighters say about me, ‘Oh, he’s getting pushed more than anyone else.’ I’m not. I just create better content than all of you. Just because you couldn’t sell a bible to an orthodox Christian, know what I mean.”

But that is no indication that ‘The Baddy’ is Christian by any means. In fact, ‘The Baddy’ has not openly professed his religious beliefs. And although Liverpool is a majority Catholic city, we wouldn’t put our bets on Pimblett being a practicing Catholic (if he indeed comes from a Catholic home) given that he’s a self-styled Socialist. But that’s a topic for a different day. Now, let’s take a look at that legendary accent of his!

All about Paddy Pimblett’s unique accent

Pimblett hails from Liverpool, and the land known for a famous stew known as ‘Scouse’. And based on that, people with an accent like Pimblett’s are called ‘Scousers’—people who mostly came from Welsh and Irish ancestry. Hence, it’s an accent that has often put the Liverpudlians in the same boat as the Irish. That’s the reason why Pimblett is often associated with ‘The Notorious’. Speaking on the confusion, ‘The Baddy’ once said, “A lot of people comment on my YouTube and think I’m Irish. A lot of people don’t realize I’m English. It’s just Scouse. It’s the way we talk. A lot of our own country can’t really understand us.”

Now, Pimblett is all set to go up against the #7 lightweight contender, Michael Chandler, at the co-main event for UFC 314. Needless to say, there’s a lot in line for the #12-ranked lightweight contender. A loss might put an end to his undefeated record in the UFC, while a win can push him to the top 10 rankings. But we have to wait till the night of April 12th to see the outcome of the fight.

Who do you think will win in the co-main event of UFC 314? Can Pimblett make his country people proud with his performance against ‘Iron’ Mike? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
