31-year-old Viktor Arvidsson arrived as a seasoned veteran in Edmonton. After spending 10 seasons with two NHL teams, the right-winger became an expensive acquisition for the Oilers, costing the team $4 million annually. However, despite spending over a decade in the NHL, we know very little about the Swedish player’s net worth.
Although we don’t know the exact estimate, we may be successful in guessing the ballpark amount depending on the player’s career earnings. After playing for three teams, and currently in his 11th season with the Edmonton Oilers, Arvidsson has earned $34.971 million according to Spotrac’s estimate. However, these numbers will only go up by the end of his contract with the Oilers. However, there’s a lot more that goes into net worth other than career earnings.
The Edmonton Oilers picked up Arvidsson after the Los Angeles Kings lost the forward to free agency. Shortly after leaving the Kings, the 31-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Oilers on July 1, 2024, worth $8 million. While the AVV of the contract was $4 million, this was only the base salary for the forward, as he could potentially earn more depending on the bonus and incentives.
The forward expressed his joy after joining the Edmonton Oilers. “I’m happy to be an Oiler and it’s going to be really fun… I think the group is great, they have something really going for them there, and it’s going to be fun,” said Viktor Arvidsson. However, the bonuses and incentives that he stands to earn with Edmonton and has earned with other teams is what makes figuring out the exact net worth.
Another hurdle in pinpointing the player’s net worth would be the lack of information on the assets he owns. A 2018 Nashville Post report revealed that Arvidsson had bought a house at 4506 Beacon Drive near Cheekwood Botanical Gardens, in Nashville, Tennessee for $1,975,000. This purchase came just a year after the Nashville Predators handed the player a $29.75 million contract extension.
However, it’s unclear whether he still owns the house. It’s a similar story with any other major assets the NHL star may own. Going by the fact that Spotrac estimates Arvidsson’s career earnings to reach $38.97 million (excluding bonuses) by the end of the 2025-26 season, it’s safe to say his net worth is in the multimillion. So now let’s take a look at why Viktor Arvidsson chose the Edmonton Oilers.
Viktor Arvidsson’s Edmonton Oilers connection
Despite two successful seasons with the Kings, a back injury limited Arvidsson to just 18 games during the 2023-24 season. While he still scored six goals, the Kings hoped to free up the $4.25 million cap space and thus parted ways with Arvidsson after the 2023-24 season.
So when the Oilers came knocking, Viktor Arvidsson became excited at the prospect of joining the team that propelled Wayne Gretzky to superstardom. However, there was more to the 31-year-old decision than the lucrative $8 million contract. Arvidsson had known Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm years before the Oilers were ever interested in signing the forward.
So, despite other teams showing interest, the former Nashville Predators player chose the Oilers. “The process was pretty straightforward, I had a few teams (interested) but I’ve known ‘Ekky’ for a long time, and our families know each other well and he convinced me pretty early and I think that was a big part of it too, and I’m happy and our family is happy too,” Arvidsson said.
However, his first season with the Oilers has been far from spectacular so far, with only scoring 6 goals and 11 assists in 37 games. Then again, the Oilers themselves seemed to have hit a rough patch. So, only time will tell how much success the 31-year-old finds with the Oilers by the time his contract ends.
