He didn’t know it then, but OG Anunoby’s injury and subsequent absence against in their win against the Warriors earlier this season would be a turning point for Miles McBride. Recording a career–high 29 points, a career-high 6 three-pointers in a career-high 47 minutes just stapled his name in the Knicks rotation for the better.

But despite all his efforts in the current season, he never understates his parents’ impact growing up in Cincinnati and their decision to introduce him to God. Today, we take a deep dive into the very upbringing that he calls a blessing.

Where is Miles McBride from? What is the Knicks star’s nationality?

Miles joins a long list of Ohio natives in the NBA. An American from all angles if there ever was one. He’s grown up in the Cincinnati sports circuit- and that’s through the plethora of athletic pedigree he had around him growing up. “Everything had to do with sports… they taught us lessons through sports that apply to life,” said Miles to summarise his upbringing in one sentence. It’s no surprise he’s one of the hottest properties in the Association.

When it comes to basketball, Miles’ passion is shared with his father, Walt. He played college basketball at Xavier University in the 80s as a forward, averaging about 10 points per game. He later became a Cincinnati-area high school coach and remains actively involved in analyzing Miles’ NBA performances. But that competitive edge? He got it from his mother, Kim. She played tennis at Ohio State University. The idea to teach life lessons through sports? It was Kim’s idea.

The athletic pedigree doesn’t end there, though. His siblings are as involved in sports as the next one. Deuce’s older brother brother Trey, plays for Bayer Giants Leverkusen in Germany, while his younger siblings, Karter and Ashley, have a similar passion for the hardwood, being a part of the sport’s youth setups in Cincinnati.

But the one thing he’s talked about the most is his Catholicism. Miles says, “I went to religious schools my whole life as did my siblings and I think my parents understood that being around the faith and going to these schools would add a lot of value to my life as I grew up. I believe God gave me my gifts on the court and so me working my hardest and doing my best is my gift back to God.”

Which college did Miles McBride attend?

All his childhood values brought him to West Virginia University. After shining for Moeller High School in Cincinnati, he opted to play for the Mountaineers. As a freshman, McBride averaged 9.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting 40.2 percent from the field, mostly coming off the bench. This got him into the Big 12 All-Freshman Team, setting up for a fantastic sophomore year in waiting.

The career-high 30 points, six rebounds, and six assists in an 84–67 victory over Morehead State Eagles were probably the highlight of the year. Those signs were there during the freshman year, but this took his name to a whole new level. Though the Mountaineers couldn’t achieve much during Miles’ time there, he averaged 15.9 points, 4.8 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game, earning Second Team All-Big 12 honors.

Before Deuce got into the permanent rotation, Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau talked about the patience he needed to have to show that he deserved the minutes. “I love what ‘Deuce’ has done. We’ll try to figure out how to work that out. He’ll probably be going back and forth. He’s done a really good job. We’ll see how this unfolds,” said Thibs back in March 2022. Thibs knew his potential, as his words have come to life in front of him.
