Deion Sanders, the ultimate game changer of the Colorado Buffs, gets his prize. From dealing with the constant NFL jump rumors following his sons’ departure, to sealing a new contract, Coach Prime led the way. Sanders came and took up a doormat program and shaped it with his own brilliance. He went 4-8 in his first season but drew a lot of eyeballs to the program since his hiring. Thanks to his magnetic presence and the top-tier recruiting strategy, he brought with him a unique approach to building a championship roster. Now, it’s time for a reward. A new contract extension knocks on the door.

The new contract guarantees him a whopping $10 million this year, and next year before increasing to $11 million in 2027 and $12 million in the third and final year of the deal in 2029. With this, he became the highest-paid coach in the Big 12. Just a few weeks back, the internet was blazing with the rumor of Sanders going to jump ship to the Dallas Cowboys following the dismissal of Mike McCarthy. Some reports suggested Johnson met the franchise and showcased mutual interest. But before it could get any deeper, Colorado higher ups dished a $54 million safety net. It’s not always the money that keeps a coach hooked in a house. But let’s be honest, money can control a lot of decisions that could go sour, eventually, without it.

Alabama AD explained the move with a voice filled with love, light and a lot more silver lining, down the stretch.  “Coach Prime has revolutionized college football and in doing so, has restored CU football to our rightful place as a national power,” said George. “This extension not only recognizes Coach’s incredible accomplishments transforming our program on and off the field, it keeps him in Boulder to compete for conference and national championships in the years to come.”
