After having lost four out of their last five and nine out of their last ten games, Sky came to Uncasville to play against Connecticut for the second meeting of the season. And it turned out to be a replica of the Indiana Fever vs. Connecticut Sun game that saw multiple techs on the same day. But this one was even more interesting.
It all began with 6:35 left in the second quarter, when Sun guard Bria Hartley committed a hard foul on Chicago’s Rebecca Allen. As Allen hit the floor, she grabbed onto Hartley’s jersey, a move that didn’t sit well with the veteran guard. Words quickly escalated into shouting, and that’s when the scene took a dramatic turn.
Two-time All-Star Ariel Atkins, looking to defend her Sky teammate, charged toward Hartley. Then, as usual, players, coaches, and officials are scrambling to separate them. The referees went straight to the monitor for review, and the verdict was harsh but unsurprising—technical fouls for all involved and ejections for Hartley, Allen, and Atkins.
