Watch: Rockies $64.5M Star Fights Back Tears in Heartfelt Plea to Fans Amid Worst Start in MLB History

4 min read

You don’t always require a glance at the scoreboard to know that the team has hit its rock bottom. Just a mere look in the eyes of a team’s star player is enough to know that they are falling apart. The Colorado Rockies have had a horrible start to the 2025 season. Let’s just say that they currently hold the worst league record at 6-31 after being brutally defeated by the Detroit Tigers by 21-3 in a home doubleheader.

Projecting their current pace, the Rockies are trending forward to end up with a 26-136 record by the end of this season. But how did they fall off like this? You see, their key veteran, Charlie Blackmon, has retired, and at the same time, the roster hasn’t been really stable. Players like Cal Quantrill and Brendan Rodgers remain non-tendered.

And when it comes to their farm system, it’s in the bottom half of the league. They have spent a significant amount of time drafting near the top, but nothing worked out!

An emotional Kyle Freeland tells Rockies fans to keep believing in them.

Amidst marking the historically poor start in early May, the Rockies’ $64.5 million star shares a brief, heartfelt plea with a shaky voice and teary eyes. Kyle Freeland, the Rockies’ key pitcher, made a media appearance after being handed a pair of painful defeats by the Tigers. He emotionally pleaded, “Keep believing in us.” As those words came out, he was visibly breaking down with disappointment.

After all, he was just coming off a rough outing against the Tigers, where he lasted for just three innings. Freeland gave up 11 hits, earned 5 runs, and struck out just 2 batters over 65 pitches. Even though the season is still short, guess what…

The Rockies are already 18.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. Currently, they are riding a five-game losing streak, and Freeland’s plea to the fanbase comes with the acknowledgement of the team’s bad brand of baseball.

Now, after the Tigers, the Rockies will be going up against the San Diego Padres for a weekend series starting on Friday. As of now, the Rockies’ nation doesn’t expect much from the team, but that doesn’t mean that the matchup will be any less intense.

But just so you know, the Rockies have officially etched their name in MLB history for the wrong reasons.

Are the Colorado Rockies even worse than the 2024 Chicago White Sox?

There is no franchise in this league that hasn’t encountered a painful stretch. Usually, they get over it and bounce back stronger. But for the Colorado Rockies, there seems to be no way out anymore. And whenever we come across a team’s “embarrassing season,” it instantly rings bells for the Chicago White Sox’s 2024 version.

The White Sox reportedly lost 121 games last year. Oh, and they were insanely criticized for it the entire season. And the Rockies? They are on pace to end up losing 136 games this season, making wild MLB history. It will catch you off guard that the Rockies, across their 35 games, have a 6-29 record.

If you think that’s bad, wait till you know what’s worse! Their .1707 winning percentage secures them the place for a 27-135 season. It’s predicted that they will lose another game soon.

With 3-17 over the past 20 games, the Rockies have shown no signs of coming back stronger. You now realize the look in Freeland’s eyes was justified as he pleaded for support.

Well, let’s also note that their ace, Kris Bryant, is somehow permanently sidelined with his injury. So, naturally, it’s very unlikely for the Rockies to play well against the Padres, too!

It’s definitely humiliating, but it seems like the 2024 Chicago White Sox don’t look that bad anymore, right? The Rockies seem to have no chances for a playoff spot. This is their rock bottom, and if their historically poor numbers say anything, there is no way out. Do you agree, too?
