Warriors Broadcasters Detail Security’s Role In Draymond Green & Fred VanVleet’s Fight As Multiple Players Risk Suspension

It’s playoff basketball baby and we are all for it! After beating the Rockets on Sunday, that too on their home court, the Warriors knew that Game 2 was going to be a dog fight. That’s exactly what happened. Hard fouls, brutal landings, heated altercations – Tonight’s clash looked more like a WWE PLE than a basketball game. And it all culminated with one final altercation in the fourth quarter that forced security to step in.

It happened midway during the final quarter after the Rockets extended their lead to nineteen points, forcing the Bay Area team to call a timeout. While the players headed to the bench, Draymond Green and Fred VanVleet went face to face and began chirping at each other. The situation escalated when their teammates stepped in and began trash-talking the opponents. Before things got physical, team security and officials separated the players, potentially saving them from major penalty.

The on-air announcers detailed the whole incident on Live TV, “Watch VanVleet and Draymond come together. Draymond says something, VanVleet says something back, they’re face to face exchanging pleasantries… The crew did a great job there. Courtney Kirkland and David Guthrie and all the security for the Warriors as well. The same thing with the Rockets and their security staff.” Then, the Warriors broadcasters warned the players to be careful, “Here’s the issue though that you don’t wanna get in the habit of. If you leave the bench area, you’re suspended for a game.”

Had the situation escalated, several players could have been suspended for participating in the altercation. Exhibit A: Tari Eason received a technical foul for throwing a towel at Pat Spencer.
