The rebooted Warriors added yet another feather to their hat. Tonight, it wasn’t the regular blowout win that the Jimmy Butler era effortlessly produces. Instead, it was a tight game, but fans did have a treat as they witnessed vintage Stephen Curry. Amid this glittery Warriors experience, there is a lot of chance to get carried away. That’s exactly what happened with the Warriors announcers, as they made a blunder on air involving Paolo Banchero.
Before we bat our eyes on the Warriors’ glory, let’s address the major fumble. Firstly, it’s important to understand that mistakes do happen. Especially in a fast-paced game like basketball, the announcers have to be on their toes when they call the game. So, let’s go easy on the criticisms.
Paolo Banchero, the franchise leader, had a dominating night, dropping 41 points and 6 rebounds, except it was overshadowed by Steph’s historic night. Up until the Dubs’ third quarter flurry, it indeed looked like the Magic’s night as Banchero carried the team with a steady double-digit lead.
So, speaking highly of him, the announcer attempted to place the third-year forward among the greats, saying, “Only players in NBA history with 3000 points, 1000 rebounds, 200 threes in the first two years. One is LeBron, the other is Luka. The third is Paolo Banchero.” Unfortunately, it had a slight factual inaccuracy. LeBron James had made only 171 threes at the end of his sophomore year.
Moreover, this can be interpreted in a positive light as well. The announcer’s attempt was to place the Magic’s forward among the greats, instead, the 22-year-old proved that he has a step ahead with 3241 points, 1051 rebounds and 204 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Luka Doncic outscored the rest with 3285 pts, 1136 rbs, and 339 3pm. While the announcer’s blunder turned into a blessing in disguise, Stephen Curry dimmed his moment of glory.
This is a developing story!
