UFC Vegas 105: Josh Emmett vs. Lerone Murphy Comparative Analysis of Height, Reach, and Walk-Around Weight

3 min read

At UFC Vegas 106, featherweight legend Josh Emmett is all set to face a new challenge in the face of Lerone Murphy inside the UFC Apex. Both fighters are equally capable of giving each other the challenge of a lifetime; some might even say they are equally strong. Although size can be a little deceiving, there are different methods a fighter can resort to, to deal with it. However, the height, reach, and walk-around weight can create a big difference.

This fight also becomes important from the divisional perspective. One win from here, and either of them can get the chance to get their hands on the winner of the UFC 314 main event, which is scheduled between former champion Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes. So, without further adieu, let’s begin the analysis.

Emmett vs Murphy height and reach comparison

Josh Emmett and Lerone Murphy are mostly the same size. The Arizona Native, currently 40 years old, is 1.68 meters tall and has a 70-inch reach. His opponent, the undefeated Brit, is a 33-year-old young man and is 1.75 meters tall with a 73-inch reach.

Currently, Josh Emmett has a professional record of 19 wins, 4 losses, and 0 draws. On the other hand, Murphy has 15 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw. Both fighters are also coming off a win – Josh Emmett’s last win was a brutal knockout of Bryce Mitchell at UFC 296, and Lerone Murphy defeated Dan Ige in his last fight, taking his winning streak to a staggering 07.

The size discrepancies are not looking wide enough to create some significant effects for the fighters inside the octagon. Murphy is only a few inches taller, but he can enjoy his 3-inch reach to strike from a distance and land an array of kicks along with straight punches.

However, Emmett has gained years of experience fighting the likes of Yair Rodriguez, who also had a massive height advantage over him. So, he can definitely make some changes to his strategy and look forward to closing the distance and landing those impeccable body shots.

Who weighs more, Josh Emmett or Lerone Murphy?

UFC Vegas 106 is headlined by two featherweights, so the official weight is going to be 145 pounds. However, Josh Emmett’s walk-around weight reportedly is 190 pounds, and Lerone Murphy’s walk-around weight is 160 pounds, which is a lot less than the Arizona Native. Although they have to make the official weight of 145 pounds, Josh Emmett has to be the heavier one just based on the walk-around weight.

Just like height and reach, weight is also a crucial part of MMA. The fighters go through a full-on battle before stepping into the octagon with a beaming confidence. But, before that, it’s nothing but a few grueling days of agony and pain.
