Two Years After $25 Million Payday, Terence Crawford Dismisses Errol Spence Jr.’s Hall of Fame Status in One Line

4 min read

In 2023, Terence Crawford ended his heated rivalry with Errol Spence Jr. in spectacular fashion, delivering a ninth-round knockout to become the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era. His emphatic victory not only settled their long-standing feud but also cemented his place in boxing history. Fast forward to 2025, and ‘Bud’ remains unconvinced that Spence Jr. deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame, reigniting the debate rivalry once again.

While having a conversation with Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo at Pound-4-Pound, Crawford expressed his true thoughts on his former foe. When asked about how he feels about his journey, the boxing champ emphasized that he is content with his career, however, he would like to achieve more. Interestingly, when the topic shifted to his former foe Spence Jr., ‘Bud’ asserted that he doesn’t believe Spence will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, “I can retire right now and be in the Hall of Fame. He couldn’t, you know, like everything that I’ve accomplished, he’s still trying to accomplish, you know.”

Kamaru Usman was intrigued by the statement and asked, “Do you not think Spence will be in the Hall of Fame?” In response, Crawford said, “Right now, no. He fought in just one division and never unified the belts.” He further added, “He wasn’t undisputed, huh? He wasn’t. But what I’m saying is they already called him a weight bully, right? He beat Kell Brook coming off of a loss and an eye injury. You know, he beat Shawn Porter.”

To say that Errol Spence Jr. doesn’t deserve to be in the Hall of Fame is quite a bold take from Terence Crawford, especially considering their rematch never materialized. However, it’s true that Crawford has achieved more in his career. Both of them clashed on July 29, 2023, at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. Their clash was billed as, ‘Undefeated. Undisputed. Unprecedented.’ It must be noted that this fight was one of the biggest fights in terms of revenue for ‘Bud’s career.

The fight reportedly racked up 700,000 PPV buys, bringing in more than $59 million in revenue, along with an additional $20 million from ticket sales. According to reports by various trusted sources, both Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr fetched a massive $25 million as their fight purse. ‘The Truth’ is yet to get back into the bosing ring after his last loss against Crawford, and maybe this is one of the reasons ‘The Bud’ believes that he doesn’t deserve the Hofer status.

“Like I said, that’s a good win. I don’t want to sound like I’m hating on him or anything like that, but I honestly don’t know if he’ll make it to the Hall of Fame with the accolades he has right now,” said Crawford at the end of his statement. ‘Bud’ remains firm in his stance and is unlikely to change his mind. Interestingly, Crawford is now looking to take on the biggest battle of his career. Let’s take a closer look.

Terence Crawford prepares for Canelo Alvarez fight

The biggest fight of Terence Crawford‘s career is waiting for him in the shape of Canelo Alvarez. The Mexican boxing hotshot signed a multi-million dollar deal with the Riyadh Season to fight under their banner, and for his second battle, ‘Saul’ will be sharing the boxing ring against ‘The Bud.’ It must be noted that for the fight to take place, Alvarez must first defeat IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull on May 3 in Saudi Arabia.

Many within the community believe that Alvarez will win the battle easily. Up next, Terrance Crawford awaits.  As of March, ‘The Bud’ is gearing up his fight against Alvarez in September, and his trainer, Brian “BoMac” McIntyre, has reportedly secured the perfect sparring partner to help Crawford. Who is it, you might ask? Well, it’s none other than Guatemalan Lester Martinez.

Terence Crawford is prepared for his clash in September. Now, the question remains: Will ‘The Bud’ get past Canelo Alvarez? Well, we will have to wait. What are your thoughts on the hubbub? State your opinion in the comments below.
