The Dallas Cowboys from the 1990s are associated with a specific mythos. In Arlington, the Lombardi Trophies were distributed like party favors during this golden age when grit and glory collided. Right in the middle of that dynasty? Troy Aikman. After navigating a minefield of early defeats, the stoic No. 8 became the mastermind behind three Super Bowl runs. Although Aikman lacked Michael Irvin’s flamboyance and Emmitt Smith’s explosiveness, he was still inevitable.
But at present, Troy no longer needs touchdowns to make it to the headlines. He just needs an IG post and a cause worth supporting.
The Hall of Fame quarterback posted on his Instagram that he will be the featured guest speaker at the 8th Annual Rising Stars Luncheon in North Texas on April 29, 2025. Where he will trade huddles for meaningful conversations. The luncheon is organised by After-School All-Stars (ASAS). And honors youth empowerment, community mentoring, and bridging the opportunity divide. And who better to be the event’s star than a man who built a purpose-driven business out of his post-football legacy? . “Honored to be the featured guest speaker… Their mission to support and uplift underserved middle school students through after-school enrichment is one I’m proud to stand behind. Looking forward to a meaningful afternoon celebrating the future leaders of North Texas,” Troy Aikman wrote on Instagram, attaching his name—and legacy—to one of the country’s most impactful youth organizations.
Aikman won’t be the only person on stage. WFAA-TV’s Joe Trahan will present a “fireside chat” during the event, and Lisa Cooley of the Lisa and Clay Cooley Family Foundation will receive the Champion Award. With Aikman contributing his reputation to further the cause, the roster collectively reads like a who’s who of North Texas charity.
Aikman’s post-NFL career is as polished as his playing days, encompassing real estate, media deals, and even NASCAR endeavours. But this move? It’s not just about profit. It has to do with presence. Aikman is still calling plays, albeit in a different setting, as seen by the subtly changing settings from boardrooms and TV booths to classrooms, community centres, and also marathon finish lines. Because this is just another way by which he is giving it back to society.
Recently, Aikman has been working on expanding the wellness sector with his well-made EIGHT Elite Light Beer, but he is also embracing his heritage. Sponsoring the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon in 2025 was a personal decision rather than a corporate one. With a beer in hand and his legacy in mind, Aikman is giving back to Oklahoma, the place where he was raised, the bombing that left his family forever changed, and the people who helped form his values.
Troy Aikman, called out by his ex-teammate, says he’s still cashing checks from the ’90s glory
However, Aikman isn’t holding back as he assumes a role intended to motivate the next generation. Recently, Cowboys legend and Aikman’s former colleague Michael Irvin said something that lit up the fan base like Texas Stadium on a Monday night: “We still living off of it.” Translation? The titles you earn pay forever.
It was Irvin’s unfiltered response during a contentious segment protecting Micah Parsons in the midst of the Cowboys’ most recent identity problem. As DeMarcus Lawrence slammed the franchise on his way out the door and Parsons fired back online, Irvin pivoted to perspective. Instead of simply siding with Parsons, he gave him a warning: “Win Super Bowls. There’ll be so much to go around… Emmitt, Troy, and I—we still living off of it. It’s been plenty for all of us. We still make millions.”
Here comes the side-eyes and eye-rolls from NFL fans on X. Some said it hit them as nostalgia. Others took it as a not-so-subtle jab. So, not only are Aikman and company remembered for their greatness. But they are also making money off of it, continuing to ride the wave of rings they won decades ago. That past appears more like a disturbing contrast than an inspiration in a time when the present Cowboys haven’t sniffed an NFC title game in 30 years.
Troy Aikman sits comfortably in the post-career penthouse while Parsons deals with viral feuds and a $24 million fifth-year option. And some people don’t like that. And Aikman hasn’t responded publicly to Irvin’s remark—and likely won’t. That’s not his style. His style is a subtle legacy reinforcement. Announce a philanthropic appearance. Align with a youth movement. Post about “celebrating the future.” All while the present Cowboys are stuck in playoff purgatory.
