“Trillions of Dollars of Mineral”- Joe Rogan Slips Bizarre Solution Amid U.S. Military & NATO’s Serious Risk

5 min read

Joe Rogan has never shied away from controversial views, and his recent conversation on The Joe Rogan Experience was no exception. While discussing rising global tensions over Greenland, NATO, and the Arctic, the JRE host mocked former President Donald Trump’s suggestion that Canada become the 51st state of the United States. Instead, Rogan recommended an alternative target: Greenland. The UFC commentator suggested that acquiring the Arctic island could prove more strategic, both geopolitically and economically.

“If you want a 51st state, it’s Greenland. Plus, if global warming is real… it’d be good to have a cold spot to eventually warm up.” Rogan’s statements came at a time when Greenland is gaining popularity among world powers, not just for its strategic location but also for its massive mineral wealth. His guest, Michael Kosta, acknowledged being unaware of how important nickel and copper are to modern businesses, notably for EV batteries. That discovery put previous US involvement in Greenland into perspective. “When the news came out that Trump wanted Greenland, I was like, ‘Oh, this is starting to make more sense to me,’” Kosta said.

Joe Rogan pushed the discussion a step further, stating that mining operations in Greenland might be a goldmine—literally. But, if obtaining resources on Earth is problematic, he speculated that the solution might exist beyond the planet. Asteroid mining, a long-discussed scientific concept, became the UFC commentator’s unexpected pivot. He said, “There’s also a lot of stuff in the sky. If they can mine asteroids… they can get a lot of precious minerals.” While large-scale asteroid mining is still decades away, Rogan remained convinced that advancements in technology would someday make it possible.

“There’s asteroids out there filled with trillions of dollars in minerals. I know, it’s nuts. They’ll figure it out.” His theory may appear absurd, but countries such as the United States and China and even private corporations like SpaceX are already investing in space-based resource extraction. While Joe Rogan‘s comments were speculative, they reflect current geopolitical tensions. Greenland remains an important piece of the Arctic puzzle, both for military purposes and for its undeveloped reserves of rare earth minerals. The United States has long acknowledged its significance, and with NATO monitoring Russia and China’s rising Arctic presence, the island is increasingly viewed as a valuable asset. However, this wasn’t the only place that Joe Rogan suggested the United States acquire.

Joe Rogan suggests Donald Trump make a move toward Mexico

Joe Rogan’s ambition of territorial expansion did not end with Greenland. In his JRE episode with comedian Theo Von, the podcast host casually offered the idea that following Canada, the United States should “go right into Mexico.” The remark came after he endorsed Trump’s frequent claims that Canada may become the 51st state, an idea that Canadian politicians have questioned. The JRE host, on the other hand, went a step further, questioning why growth should end in Canada when Mexico, with its resources and trade possibilities, lay just beyond.

Joe Rogan presented his proposal as a means to solve border security while also “expanding safety” and ensuring economic stability. “How about we go into that? Instead of letting all the bad stuff in, how about we make it totally lockdown-safe and then expand safety?” he suggested. His argument is broadly consistent with Trump’s claims that America is suffering from large trade deficits with Canada and Mexico and that an economic merger—by force or agreement—could be advantageous. Trump, who has previously hinted at purchasing Greenland and perhaps taking control of the Panama Canal, recently reiterated his belief that many Canadians would welcome U.S. annexation.

In response, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau blasted the proposal, saying there was “no snowball’s chance in hell” that Canada would join the United States. With China and Russia extending their worldwide influence, the debate over territory acquisitions, trade control, and border security isn’t wholly absurd. Rogan’s off-the-cuff remarks mirror the undercurrents of modern geopolitical debates, which involve far more than minerals buried beneath Greenland’s ice or asteroids floating in space. While his vision of North American unification may never be realized, the fact that such conversations are becoming mainstream reflects a shift in how economic and military power is perceived. But what do you think? Do you agree with Joe Rogan’s suggestions? Let us know in the comments.
