If there’s one thing about Travis Kelce, it’s that the Chiefs‘ tight end can step into any arena and make waves. Dominating on the football field with Super Bowl rings? Standard. Co-hosting the chart-topping “New Heights” podcast with his brother Jason? Check. And let’s not even get started on his ventures into the fashion world—remember when he rocked Jayson Tatum’s signature kicks on the sidelines?
Yeah, fast forward, and he’s now back with the Boston Celtics star, blending the world of basketball and football on the latest episode of the Kelce brothers’ New Heights Podcast. Now, let’s be real—Tatum is well known for his signature sidestep and fadeaway jumpers and clutch performance, no doubt. But besides this, the guy’s a football fan as well. Now, that’s where things got pretty interesting.
See, after winning the 2024 NBA Finals, Tatum is looking to win his second championship. And while talking football with Travis and Jason, Tatum talked about how the Chiefs were going to make history in the last Super Bowl. “I appreciate players, I appreciate like not to bring it up, but like when you guys played the Eagles this past year, you know, Eagles, great team, great story, but me just went in the championship and like, damn, we are trying to win our second one,” he said.
“You guys trying to make history and win your third, like, I appreciate it, you know, potentially, watching, you know, history being made.” However, neither the Chiefs kingdom nor Tatum could witness the history being made. And for that reason, Travis Kelce apologized to Tatum. “So, I appreciate you jumping on and, and being, and I am sorry that you had to endure that,” Travis said while having a friendly laugh with the Celtics’ star and Jason.
Well, following the Chiefs’ loss to the Eagles in February, Travis Kelce has surely been candid about the tough loss and his performance. And let’s be real—it’s not the first time that he apologized for the Super Bowl loss. A few days after losing the Super Bowl, the veteran TE apologized to Chiefs Kingdom as well.
“It’s a tough pill to swallow. It’s a hard reality, man. I love my teammates, I love my coaches. Chiefs Kingdom, I’m sorry for how it ended,” he stated last month. So yeah, no wonder when Jayson Tatum (who, by the way, is a Chiefs’ fan as well, considering the guy belongs from St. Louis) talked about winning the championship and making history, the guy just apologized for not being able to do so. Once Again!
But that’s not all on the latest episode of the New Heights Podcast. I mean, how could the Kelce brothers not talk about football with Tatum, right?
Jayson Tatum’s fantasy football didn’t turn out well
Alright, here’s the deal: Jayson Tatum knows a thing or two about basketball, and there’s no doubt about that. But recently, the guy decided to dip his toes into the fantasy football world. Yeah, you read that right, and let’s just say it didn’t work out well for him. Courtesy? It’s Patrick Mahomes. It all started when Tatum confessed that it was his first year in fantasy football, and when Travis casually asked, “Who’s your tight end?”
Now, if you’re thinking that sitting in front of one of the best tight ends in the league, Tatum would name Travis Kelce—yeah, not exactly. “Mark Andrews,” he said softly. And yeah, just like y’all, the Kelce brothers laughed out loud.
But let’s be real—Kelce loves the grind and probably believes that Andrews is the one who could go toe-to-toe with him stat-wise. And for that reason, the guy respects Andrews. “Mark was a good one, though. Mark and he finished strong. He probably helped you out in the playoffs, for sure. He finished strong with a bunch of touchdowns,” Travis said.
And now’s the interesting part. See, being new in fantasy football, Tatum had two leagues. “I had two leagues, so in one league I had Pat (Patrick Mahomes),” he continued. Because, of course, he’s going to pick one of the best players in his league. “I didn’t understand all about fantasy football. I am just like, oh shit.” The result?
Well, first of all, choosing Mahomes didn’t work out well for him. Second, Jason couldn’t believe that he went ahead with QB and then suggested to him a better option. “He took a quarterback first. Got to go running back. Should he go on Saquon (Barkley)? Anybody?” Jason said. Well, he’s not wrong, though.
RBs are like the workhorses of fantasy—the guys get the ball a ton, rack up yards, and punch in touchdowns like it’s their day job. That’s why Jason suggesting him to go with RB first. But what about Travis? Nah, the guy’s still in shock that Tatum went ahead with Mahomes first. “Let me get the best player in the league. Let me go get Pat,” he mocked him first. “And nothing but respect for you and Pat, but it’s like it…” and Jason finished him. “Didn’t work out, didn’t work out.”
Sure, Tatum didn’t elaborate on why it didn’t work out, but considering it was his first time in fantasy football, it’s safe to assume that it was a totally different thing for him.
