For three straight years, Rasheed Broadbell, Hansle Parchment, and Orlando Bennett have owned the podium in Jamaica’s 110m hurdles. Parchment won in 2022, followed by Broadbell and Bennett. As for Broadbell, he then went on to secure back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024. In 2023, Parchment and Bennett were second and third, respectively. In 2024, he edged Bennett in a tight finish, both clocking 13.18 seconds, with Parchment just behind at 13.19, and he was keen on marking a victory again in the 2025 JAAA Championships. Who are we talking about, and what happened in 2025 JAAA?
Coming in red-hot after wins at the Doha Diamond League and the Racers Grand Prix, Broadbell was indeed aiming for a hat‑trick in more than one way. However, after easily qualifying with a 13.27 s semi-final run, fate intervened—he pulled up injured and did not start the final. Orlando Bennett seized the moment, claiming the national title in 13.10s ahead of Demario Prince’s 13.12s. What of the injury now? How is Broadbell after all? Spoiler: The update is worrying…
The official X account of CVM TV made a tweet on July 23, 2025, that would make the fans of this athlete shiver. Their post read, “Olympic bronze medalist Rasheed Broadbell is out for the season after Achilles surgery. The 24-year-old, seen in a boot recently, withdrew from the 110m hurdles final at Trials. Sources say he may miss part of next season too. #CVMsports #Broadbell #TrackAndField”. This is now the end of all the World Champions’ dreams that he had.

Recently, he was seen wearing a boot – a medical device designed to stabilize and protect the foot, ankle, or lower leg during recovery. The injury was a harsh one, as even Orlando Bennett had that heard a big crash mid warm‑up and saw the guy who broke Grant Holloway’s streak on the ground, unable to start the race. Having sat out of JAAA and now the whole season, the athlete, for now, might look at the highlights for that; let us, too.
Back when Broadbell broke Grant Holloway’s streak
Going into the 2024 Diamond League stop in Lausanne, Grant Holloway was nearly unstoppable. The Olympic champion had been on a winning run, sweeping every race he entered throughout the season, including numerous sub-13‑second finishes in the 110 m hurdles. If we were to take that discipline alone, the Olympian hadn’t lost a race in the 2024 season and stood at a streak of 10-0. This streak included the Tom Jones Memorial, Prefontaine Classic, a sweep at the U.S. Olympic Trials, Monaco’s Herculis meet, and all three rounds (heat, semifinal, final) at the Paris Olympics, ending with a 12.99s gold-medal run on August 8. That streak ended here.
On August 22, 2024, in Lausanne, Holloway and Broadbell lined up under a calm Swiss sky. Holloway flew out fast, smooth over each hurdle, and led into the final one. But Broadbell, bronze medalist in Paris, launched a fierce late charge. Off the last barrier, Broadbell surged, “Over on the far side, it is Broadbell who came through well from Lane three well well well Holloway a rare defeat the first of the season for the defending Champion“, the commentator declared. In a split-second finish, Broadbell had taken the lead and won the race, 13.10 to Holloway’s 13.14, ending the American’s perfect season with a stunning upset.
