Track and Field Prodigy Gout Gout Faces Major Threat as 17-Year-Old Jamaican Sprinter Closes In on Usain Bolt’s Record

2 min read

Last year, 17-year-old Gout Gout took 20.06 seconds to go past Usain Bolt’s personal best in the 200m in the U-18 level. The Jamaican track and field legend once crossed the finish line in 20.13 seconds. So see the difference. But if we tell you that there’s a Jamaican teenage athlete who is also threatening Bolt’s record, how would we feel? Surprisingly, the said Jamaican wunderkind has better timing than Gout Gout in the U-18 100m event. Last year, he ran at a blistering pace to complete the 100m event in 10.07 seconds in the National Stadium in Jamaica. However, this year, he has improved his performance. How?

In the ongoing Jamaican School Champs, Gary Card set his personal best in the 100m event. The new timing is 10.06 (+0.5) seconds. This new timing, however, is the same as what Cristian Miller set in 2023—the all-time record in the U-18 100m event.
