Tough Blow for Sherrone Moore & Michigan as 4-Star RB Target Drops Major Announcement on B1G Rival

5 min read

It’s off-season again. Eight long months without college football will bring anticipation, speculation, predictions, and boredom, right? Well, it’s hardly ‘boring’ out there for the coaches and the teams. QB battles are underway for several programs, full-blown recruiting wars are ensuing, and most of all, transfer portal and NIL will bring out the worst in the coaches with their harsh decisions. It’ll be seldom boring, and it seems like Sherrone Moore has already started to move in that direction.

Michigan didn’t quite perform at their ‘championship’ levels in 2024. They lost 5 games in the regular season and failed to make it to the playoffs. Part of it could be blamed on Jim Harbaugh’s sneaky departure or maybe the Connor Stallions controversy that still hasn’t died down. Which is still haunting Sherrone Moore after his alleged ‘WhatsApp’ leaks. But Michigan won against Ohio State for the fourth consecutive time; that counts for something, right?

Well, in the old era, a win against Ohio State might have absolved any head coach of every sin he would have committed. But, in this one, Sherrone Moore will face the ire of the supporters if he doesn’t produce results sooner. In that direction, Moore has produced a 6th-ranked class nationally with their crown jewel and generational prodigy Bryce Underwood. However, the work didn’t stop at the 2025 class, as the head coach started to secure his tattered class of 2026. He was after a well-touted linebacker until Lincoln Riley came and snatched the Wolverines’ prey from their jaws.

Well, we are talking about Deshonne Redeaux, the highly touted 4-star LB prospect of the 2026 class who has just committed to the USC Trojans after flirting with Michigan for quite some time. The player expanded on his commitment in a recent statement.

USC has always been there, and when they realized they couldn’t let me slip away late last year, things changed with them,” Redeaux told On3. “Once they turned it up and made me feel I couldn’t leave home and that there was no need for me to go anywhere else, USC became that school for me. They laid out their plan, they showed me that USC had everything for me and that I could be a difference-maker early in the program. They showed me I wanted things changed.”

Apart from Michigan, UCLA was also in a tight race to land the 4-star linebacker. So much so that Redeaux even reported having a “great” relationship with their head coach, DeShaun Foster. Even a commitment was there between the two parties. However, Redeaux held off and gave the Trojans their well-deserved reward. A program that is on a hot streak and has landed a whopping 20 commits so far for their 2026 class.

Was the ‘shocking’ commitment in the air all along?

A native of Oaks Christian High School, Los Angeles, Redeaux will have everything to perform at USC under Riley’s tutelage. However, even before the player had made his commitment to the Trojans, his flirting with different programs like Michigan, UCLA, and Georgia was on a whole other level. In a show with Josh Newberg of ON3, he hinted at being an elusive guy and even signaled Michigan to move aggressively for him.

I think I’m going to shock the world with this one. There’s a lot of talk around where I’m going to go, but imma shock the world.” However, that wasn’t the end of it as Josh Newberg tried to press on the matter, to which the LB replied.

“I’ll say the biggest factor is giving me the opportunity to be a differentiator right now. Like, giving me the chance to play early, develop, and, you know, just—just letting—just using me to my full potential and my full ability to just let me be that guy… that’s—that’s the biggest thing about me… I just want to play ball. Everything else is going to take care of itself”.

The 143rd-ranked overall prospect has tough top competition in his class with Shahn Alston, who is a talented prodigy in his own right. Ranked 12th overall in his position, the 5-foot-10 and 205-pound running back also has all the potential to thrive at USC. However, Deshonne Redeaux also had an illustrious career in high school, as he accumulated 1,263 yards for 18 touchdowns just last season. That being said, his frame at 5’91/2″ and 180 lbs may be a bit weak when compared to Shahn Alston. However, this is something he can improve over the season and during his tenure at USC.
