Tom Brady Hits Back at Skip Bayless’ Big Raiders Claim

5 min read

Shedeur Sanders didn’t have a good April, but that’s all in the past now. He’s looking forward to his time with the Cleveland Browns. And this kid now has the chance to carve out a comeback story similar to Tom Brady and Brock Purdy. Context? Brady went 199th overall in the 2000 draft. Purdy went 262nd in 2022. It’s not just these two, though. The NFL history is riddled with QBs slipping through the bullet holes of their shot draft stocks. Look at David Garrard at 108th and Kirk Cousins at 102nd. Need more? Dak Prescott went 135th. And what do these QBs have in common? They are names that all made it big in the NFL. And when the Coach Prime genes kick into high gear on the gridiron, Sanders is going to leave all the haters in the dust.

Recently, the name Sanders has trended so much that even people who don’t know what the NFL stands for will tell you who he is. But it’s not all bad. In the aftermath of the drafts, players like Travis and Jason Kelce have spoken up in favor of Shedeur. Travis said, “I love this for Cleveland, the Browns fan deep down in my heart is like ‘f— yeah’.” Jason also recognized his potential and added, “There’s a ton of opportunity and potential that the kid has.” And now the GOAT Tom Brady also clears his stance on the whole thing and sheds light on the claims columnist, TV personality, and commentator Skip Bayless made a few weeks ago.

Tom Brady appeared on the IMPAULSIVE with Logan Paul podcast and addressed the claims made by Bayless that turned quite a few heads right after the draft. According to Bayless’ posts on X at the time of the drafts, “It is now pretty clear Tom Brady, who mentored Shedeur, told the Raiders NOT to take Shedeur. Duly Noted.” In a separate post, Bayless further doubled down and wrote, “How could Tom Brady’s team pass on Shedeur Sanders again and again and again??? Brady reportedly coached Shedeur. Brady reportedly was involved in Raiders draft decision-making.” And now on the Impaulsive podcast, Brady’s words have not clarified these reports; he also served a wave of fresh air for all the negativity swirling around Shedeur.

On the podcast, Tom Brady slammed all the rumors and said, “I wouldn’t have [been] part of any evaluation process or to see that. That’s the problem with media – everyone can just say whatever the f— they want.” Brady further added, “It’s kind of unfortunate, because there actually used to be a lot of integrity in the media. – There is way less now because everyone actually needs crazy voices to get heard. – It actually probably hurts a lot of relationships which is not the goal of broadcasting.” Now here’s the thing. Brady had mentored Sanders way back in 2020. At the time, he even told Sanders that he was going to become a star player. But the Raiders didn’t need a QB from the draft this year. They got Geno Smith from the Seahawks, and that’s got them covered pretty well.

Brady cleared the air about his involvement in the Raiders’ draft choice,s as well as Shedeur not getting picked. But that wasn’t all he did. He drew a comparison with himself and also hyped up Shedeur.

Tom Brady stands strong in Shedeur’s corner

On the Podcast, Tom Brady spoke about his own draft pick and gave a clear message to Shedeur Sanders. “I actually texted Shedeur because I know him very well. And I said, dude, whatever happens, wherever you go, that’s your first day. Day two matters more than the draft. I was 199. Who could speak on it better than me? Like what that really means.” And Sanders is already gearing up for the “day two.” He’s training hard. And he’s even showing up to be a part of the community, talking to school kids, giving away pizzas. This is not a guy who’s looking back. He’s waiting for his chance to prove that he has QB1 potential and can lead the Browns to greatness someday.

Tom Brady further said on the podcast, “What does it matter, other than an overhyped day where people are selling stories? It’s an important day, but I have been there on day two when they need to learn a playbook and learn to be part of a locker room.” His message is clear. Forget about the drafts, focus on your future, and just be great. Let’s face it, when you’ve got the GOAT Tom Brady vouching for you, who cares what the haters think?

And Shedeur is grateful for the opportunity he has received. He’s raring to go, show everyone why he was being touted as a first/second-round pick. And he has big names like the Kelce’s backing him up, too. If there was anything else Shedeur Sanders needed, it was Brady’s words of confidence. “Use it as motivation. You’re going to get your chances. Go take advantage of it.”
