The Conor Benn vs. Chris Eubank Jr. generational fight on May 26 is a go despite a minor hiccup. The last time the duo were set to fight, Benn tested positive for a banned substance and the fight was called off. But fortunately, this time around, things went much more smoothly with the only notable hiccup being Eubank Jr. missing the contracted 160-pound weight by 0.02 pounds initially, and then somehow by 0.05 pounds on his second try.
But because of stipulations in his contract, Eubank Jr. will have to pay a fine of £375,000 Pounds (or $499,000) for missing weight. And this has divided the fans. Some feel that paying half a million for missing weight is a travesty, while others feel that Eubank should have just made the weight, especially since he had a second to do so.
And former UFC star, Darren Till, was initially outraged at Eubank having to pay through the nose for missing weight. But later, on finding out that Eubank Jr. missed weight by such a minuscule margin, was convinced that the fine was the right thing to do.
“I think it was 0.02kg he missed by. I do have to agree that’s a bit mental he should be making it if it’s just that. Beg my pardon. My bad. Still though it’s bloody f*****g hard at them last steps of being completely drawn out and dry as f**k,” Till wrote on X, referencing a now-deleted post where he had expressed opposition to the fine.

Benn, on the other hand, is coming up a weight class and thus had no issues making weight, tipping the scales at 156.4 pounds. But this is not where the IBO middleweight champion’s weight troubles end. The fight contract has a rehydration clause which stipulates that Eubank Jr. could not weigh in more than ten pounds heavier weight on Saturday morning—the day of the fight.
Conor Benn ridicules Chris Eubank’s weight cutting troubles
Chris Eubank Jr. apparently had a very hard time cutting weight to make the 160-pound limit. The middleweight champ has been posting his ‘struggles’ on social media, with a clip showing the drastic lengths he was going to make weight. But Conor Benn is skeptical and thinks all of his ‘struggles’ are just for show.
“Christopher who are you trying to fool and get sympathy from, I’m coming UP to your weight a weight you’ve made your last 3 fights and most of your career! It’s like you’re looking for excuses already? First time you’ve ever missed weight and first time you’ve ever posted a weight cut,” Benn wrote in an X post.
We would be remiss not to expand upon the generational nature of their clash. Their rivalry goes back to their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, who fought twice back in the nineties in two of the most memorable clashes in British boxing history. Eubank Sr. won their first fight, while their second fight was a draw, which left the fans hungry for a trilogy. While that never materialized, it has beautifully set up this super-fight between their sons on Saturday. What do you think about Darren Till’s take on Chris Eubank Jr.’s missed weight?
