Last night, Jaron Ennis dominated Eimantas Stanionis, forcing his corner to end the fight after the sixth round, at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It was a welterweight unification bout, adding the WBA and Ring Magazine belts to his IBF title collection. With the win, new doors have opened up for Boots. However, there is also a bit of uncertainty surrounding who he could face next. He could fight the WBC champion Mario Barrios next. Or he could also face the WBO champion Brain Norman Jr. While Jaron Ennis is determined to become the next undisputed welterweight champion, there is another name that has cropped up on his radar as of last night.
Teofimo Lopez, the WBO and Ring Magazine super lightweight champion, has seemingly thrown his hat into the ring. More precisely, his father and trainer Lopez Sr. has thrown in his son’s name as the next possible opponent for Boots. Last year in December there were talks of Jaron Ennis fighting Teofimo Lopez and Lopez moving up to welterweight. Even Bob Arum, Lopez’s promoter, had spoken on the negotiations with Eddie Hearn to facilitate the fight. However, the talks soon fizzled out. That was until Boots’ dominant win last night.
Teofimo Lopez Sr., the Honduran-American’s father, recently spoke on the YouTuber Mr.Moonshine on his Punsh Drunk Boxing podcast, to make their stance clear. “F*****g become like 5-time lineal champion, 6-time lineal champion. You know what I’m saying,” the father said, referring to how they are planning to move up to different weight divisions to ensure Teofimo Lopez becomes a five-division champion. This is when the host decided to mention Jaron Ennis.

To that, his father replied, “Let me tell you, we know. We want that m**********r. We want Boots,” suggesting that the bout is more likely to happen than not. Lopez himself has been vocal about the bout for months now. If both were to fight, it would give fans the sweet spot they’re looking for in the welterweight division, ever since Crawford left.
“I got nothing against Boots. But he’s the m***********g guy that everybody saying that ‘Nobody could beat him.’ That guy we want,” declared Lopez Sr. confidently, clarifying that there is nothing personal, but they want the fight because of Ennis’s star reputation. The 21-1 boxer would surely love to be the one to give Ennis his first-ever career loss. But will that happen.
Teofimo Lopez vs. Jaron Ennis: A fight long time in the making
Both the boxers, being the same age, are at heights in their career. While fans are excited, and efforts were made on Teofimo Lopez’s part, there hasn’t been updates that confirm the bout. Meanwhile, Ennis was previously suggesting a move up from his division. But when he rejected the big fight against Vergil Ortiz Jr. at 154 lbs, it was confirmed that he would remain at welterweight at least for the time being. This gives Lopez an opportunity to his third weight division and become the unified welterweight champion.
This move becomes more sensible when you consider his old rivals have already made the jump to welterweight. Who? We’re talking about Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney who will be fighting their respective fights next month at welterweight.
For now, it can be thought that Teofimo Lopez wants the bout, and Jaron Ennis is still on the lookout for his next fight to keep the momentum going after his lineal title win. What are your thoughts on this?
