Nothing quite like your favourite athlete showering the crowd with his prime-time throwbacks. The steady-changing landscape of tennis has seen it all. From controversial personalities like John McEnroe to Andy Roddick, the last recorded American male to win a Grand Slam title. However, for seasoned doubles sensation Taylor Townsend, compatriot Andre Agassi holds a special place. Though retired, and now a Pickleball regular, the American veteran hardly steps away from interacting with his fans on social media and, sometimes, surprises them with a thrilling backslide to his stellar career. Subsequently, Townsend was unable to contain her emotions after Agassi recreated his years-old on-court stance.

On Sunday, March 2, Agassi appeared for an exhibition event called the MGM Rewards Slam in Las Vegas, teaming up with decorated WTA star Aryna Sabalenka. World No. 1 Sabalenka and the eight-time Major champion outclassed the pair of Naomi Osaka and Mardy Fish 10-8 in a one-round tiebreak clash.

But, before the American player cheered on the Belarusian star by highlighting why they were better than their opponents – “We’re better because of [my] partner, I’m already sweating just being close to her” – Agassi recreated his famous service stance from the 30s. Taking to Instagram, the former World No. 1 posted a reel where he served quite similarly to his decades-old service leap. To add more effect on the throwback, the American veteran also added a photo of him serving at the end of the video.

Stunned by the highlight, Townsend gushed with a wholesome reaction to his post. She added his social media post on her IG story and captioned it – My fav.”

For those unaware, Agassi called time on his career after losing to Benjamin Becker at the US Open in 2006. Since then, the 54-year-old has focused on philanthropy with his ‘Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation’. Moreover, the educationalist also fancies himself a part-time Pickleball player; that is when he is free of his Laver Cup commitments.

As for Townsend, the 28-year-old is on an all-time high. Fresh off her doubles glory in Dubai, alongside doubles No. 1 partner Katerina Siniakova, the American player landed in Palm Springs for her upcoming WTA Masters 1000 adventure. Not only that, but the seasoned professional recorded a show-stopping appearance at a star-studded event.

American star Taylor Townsend is no stranger to multitasking. As a decorated tennis professional, she seamlessly juggles her role as a mother of one on the tour. But, it was at Tennis Paradise she added another feather to her cap by finessing a chic makeover and showcasing her fashionista side. Draped in a dazzling blue outfit by Veronica Beard, the 28-year-old paired her stunning ensemble with a pair of Chanel sneakers and a Chanel bag during a WTA rebranding event where the organization unveiled their fresh green logo from purple under the tagline ‘Rally the World’.

During a conversation with the reporters, Townsend described the particulars of her outfit with a unique pronunciation of the designer label Chanel. “You know I got the most drip on tour. Sheneneh on the sneakers, Sheneneh on the bag.” The American sensation later addressed her poignant journey on the WTA, outlining her struggles and overcoming each hurdle with resilience.

She said, “Yeah, I mean, it’s been a long road. A lot of haters, a lot of people who weren’t sure. I’ve really embraced thriving in these kinds of conditions, being able to prove people wrong.” Luckily for her, results have never looked this great. Townsend commenced the season with a second Slam title in doubles with Siniakova at the Australian Open.

Now, she is looking to sort her affairs at the BNP Paribas Open. However, due to a lack of credits in the singles column, Townsend will need to survive the qualifying round tests. She is slated to lock horns with Belgian Yanina Wickmayer for a place in the main draw on Tuesday, March 4.
