Stephen Curry Injury Update: When Will Warriors Star Return to Action After Missing Win vs Bucks?

5 min read

The Warriors didn’t have time to sulk after blowing a winnable game against a shorthanded Nuggets squad. Less than 24 hours later, they were back on the court, looking to bounce back. Just when it looked like another collapse was brewing, they locked in. Turnovers stopped, the defense tightened, and they found just enough late-game energy to grind out a 104-93 win over the Bucks—without Stephen Curry—at Chase Center.

Curry has been dealing with a back issue for the past week, but it hasn’t been enough to slow him down until Tuesday. Rather than pushing through on no rest, he sat out Tuesday’s matchup against the Bucks, giving his body a break in a back-to-back.

The good news? Warriors fans can breathe easy. NBC Sports Bay Area’s Dalton Johnson reports that the 2x MVP isn’t on the injury list and will be back in action tomorrow against the Raptors.

The rest that he received is good news for Dub Nation. The 11x All-Star has been dealing with various nagging injuries throughout the season, and as the playoffs approach, concerns about his durability continue to grow. Speaking on 95.7 The Game, The Athletic’s Anthony Slater provided insight into Curry’s physical condition and what it means for the Warriors’ postseason chances.

“He’s 37, back’s bothering him a bit, he’s obviously had knee tendonitis this year,” Slater said. “He’s tweaked an ankle, remember, that happened recently. It’s just, he’s accumulating bumps and bruises over the course of a season.”

The 4x champion’s health has been a key factor in previous playoff runs, and Slater pointed out how a late-season injury in 2022 unexpectedly worked in his favor.

“Remember the ’22 title year? One of the most underrated aspects, I believe, of that run was he hurt his foot in March. Marcus Smart landed on him,” Slater recalled.

Slater continued, emphasizing how the injury inadvertently gave Steph much-needed rest before the playoffs. “He missed the last month and in retrospect, in Steve Kerr’s telling even, like, that month away was really good, refreshing the body,” Slater said.

With Curry getting some rest against the Bucks, Slater believes that will help in the short term, but he remains skeptical about the Warriors’ ability to make a deep postseason push.

“I think that’ll help, but the reality is, he has a marathon ahead of him. If they’re really going to make a deep run, that’s tough on not only his body,” Slater explained. “Jimmy Butler’s 35, Draymond Green’s 35, so that is what makes me the most skeptical of the idea that they’re now, you know, a true title contender. It’s just the age and accumulation that is ahead for really, you know, a two-month sprint, if you’re really going to get into June.”

With Curry battling multiple injuries and the Warriors fighting for playoff positioning, Golden State’s road to another championship is looking tough. With Stephen Curry battling injuries and the Warriors in a tight playoff race, every contribution matters. Surprisingly, rookie big man Quinten Post has stepped up in a way no one saw coming.

Quinten Post is learning from the best, Stephen Curry

Post has drained 53 three-pointers so far, surpassing the 40 Curry hit in the same stretch as a rookie back in 2009. The game has changed a lot since then, largely thanks to Curry himself, but that doesn’t take away from how wild this stat is. A 7-foot center leading the team in three-point percentage? That’s something you don’t see every day.

His hot shooting aside, Post is still adjusting to the NBA grind. Against the Bucks, a few rough possessions got him benched, but instead of frustration, he got a courtside masterclass from Curry.

“I don’t think [the conversation] was about the turnovers, more defensively when they’re trying to get me in the action, trying to pick on me,” Post explained. “Steph said, ‘I’ve been dealing with this for 16 years, so you’ve just got to keep your head cool, do the best of your ability and whatever you do on the floor do it with some type of aggression and things will usually end up right.’”

Different positions, different skill sets, but one thing’s clear—Post is soaking up everything he can. And if he keeps shooting like this, the Warriors might have found a hidden gem.
