Sophie Cunningham’s $1,500 Fine Finds No Escape in Sister’s Brutal WNBA Call Out After Unfortunate Injury

Whoever has cursed the Indiana Fever can stop now. Caitlin Clark was the first victim, as her soft tissue injuries have troubled her throughout the season. Fever received a double blow when Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson got season-ending injuries in the same game. And then the curse came down heavily on Sophie Cunningham.

The wing endured an impact from Sun guard Bria Hartley in the second quarter as she fell on her side of Cunningham’s leg. Play continued as Cunningham grimaced in pain and fell on the floor. She had to be helped off the floor, and there was an update soon that she was ruled out for the game. Considering her reaction, the injury could well be serious, forcing her older sister to come out heavily on the WNBA.

She blasted them for hitting Sophie with relentless fines, including one that stung for $1,500. Lindsey Cunningham wrote on Twitter, “@WNBA maybe you should focus less on fining players for commenting on your poor officiating & more about hiring officials that are able to call a consistent game and protect your athletes. Pathetic. Praying for you @sophaller.”
