“So Kind”- Chris Evert Hails Danielle Collins for a Life-Changing Decision at Miami Open

“…unfortunately, not all the dogs and cats in this world are so lucky. I’d rescue every single one if I could…” Danielle Collins wrote on Instagram back in 2020. The American ace has never shied away from expressing her deep love for her furry companions. She has got four dogs at home, including Quincy, whom she calls her “baby son.” Recently, after winning her R32 match in Miami, she shared her experience of rescuing a dog that had been tragically hit by a car. And soon after, she shared another heartwarming update, that won over the American legend Chris Evert. So, what’s the story?

Danielle Collins’ Miami Open title defense may have ended in the R16 after a hard-fought battle against Aryna Sabalenka, but it was her off-court gesture that truly won hearts. Following her earlier victory over Swiss qualifier Rebeka Masarova, Collins delighted the crowd with a touching story.

“The other night when we were leaving the stadium, we saw this dog curled up in the middle of the road. He got hit by a car. “I was like, ‘We have to pull over.’ .. We took him out of the street. He’s been in the hospital now for two days,” she said in her post-match interview.

A few days later, the WTA 15th seed, shared another update about the dog on her IG, stating, “Crash update: Crash is recovering and finally out of the hospital after 5 days on oxygen support. His breathing is back to normal, his wounds are healing, and he is definitely enjoying all the love he is receiving. He is curious, affectionate, and grateful for a second chance at life. It was so incredibly painful to witness a dog in so much pain after being hit by a car, and left in the middle of the road with so many people driving by his curled up body. I’m just grateful I was able to be there and get him the care he needed.”

The post continued, “I have officially adopted him and Quincy now has a new brother! Once he finishes recovering he will be attending school thank you to everyone who prayed for CrashAlso a massive thank you to the wonderful team of veterinarians that took care of Crash and helped him receive the best possible care!”

The heartfelt moment quickly gained attention when a tennis website shared the story on X and the American legend Chris Evert chimed in. Evert quoted the post and praised Collins’ kind act, with a sweet remark. “So kind of you! ,” she wrote.

This isn’t the first time American icon Chris Evert has shown her soft spot for any four-legged friends. Just last month, when her longtime friend Martina Navratilova’s wife, Julia Lemigova, shared an adorable farm-life moment: lovingly petting a baby goat and captioning it “Unconditional love,” Evert couldn’t resist joining in. The 18-time GS champion replied with warmth, commenting, “u r so kind and loving to your animals, Julia! ,” further proving that her love for animals stretches far beyond the tennis court.

Coming back to Collins and her love for dogs, she once revealed her dog’s influence on her Miami Open performance the previous year.

When Danielle Collins talked about Quincy’s crucial role in her Miami Open run

Danielle Collins kicked off last season in spectacular fashion, lighting up the tour with back-to-back title runs in Miami and Charleston. And behind her incredible success? A furry source of inspiration: her beloved dog, Quincy, affectionately known as Mr. Q. Collins, made no secret of the positive impact her canine companion had on her during this winning streak. Just one win away from her maiden title in Miami last season, Collins credited ‘Mr. Q’ as her calming, four-legged good luck charm.

“Yeah, I have never made a final of a tournament having my dog here. That has had a positive impact, for sure. Having my son here means a lot. It’s also different. I think some of the matches that I have played, I have played very efficient, I haven’t spent a lot of time on court. I have played similar strategies throughout the tournament against similar types of opponents, I would say,” she said back then.

Collins’ recent act of kindness has only strengthened her reputation as not just a fierce competitor, but also a genuinely kind-hearted soul. Now, with her growing furry family, her fans are already wondering: what adorable name will she choose for her newest four-legged companion?
