Simone Biles’ Retirement Might Come Sooner Than Expected As World Championship Silence Sparks Speculation Amid Ongoing Motherhood Talks

4 min read

Remember the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships? Yes, the one where Simone Biles finished at the top of the all-around table and took home 3 individual apparatus medals, too. It seems like a distant memory, right? Maybe that’s just the cue for needing a refresher soon. Luckily, this year, the Worlds return again, for the first time ever on Asian land. But surprisingly, there has not been much talk about it. Yes, Simone Biles, the all-around champ who shall be coming in to defend her title, has been rather silent about it. Is this just a coincidence or an early sign?

Simone Biles was last spotted on the competitive mats at the Paris Olympics, and otherwise, while she was touring across America for the Gold Over America Tour. Ever since, we haven’t heard gymnastics from the G.O.A.T. Yes, she did get involved in the NCAA Champs for a bit when she flew to support Cecile Landi at Georgia. But otherwise, it’s been her downtime with her family, her husband, and her non-sports endeavors. Amidst this, there has been pin-drop silence about her World’s plans or the strategy to compete as part of Team USA again. In fact, not just the Worlds, she is undecided about the home 2028 Olympics too!

Simone Biles unsure about gymnastics future?

May 3, 2025, Simone Biles attended the Kentucky Derby with her husband, Jonathan Owens, and mother Nellie Biles. That’s when she was interviewed by NBC Sports about her plans to compete at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. And Simone Biles said, “I have not decided. It is such an honor to compete at home but as of now we are going to take some time off and focus on my mental and physical health.” The 11x Olympic gold medalist Biles even added, “If anything, I will definitely be supporting team USA. I just don’t know now if I will be on the floor or the stance phase.”

Well, if at all Simone Biles decides to compete at LA, and defends her all-around title, she will be the oldest gymnast to do so, at 31. However, that is not yet sure. Biles had told a French Sports daily in April 2025 that, “I’m really trying to enjoy life, to spend time with my husband [NFL player Jonathan Owens)], go support him at his games, live my life as a woman.” Well, we see that. She has ticked so many boxes off late. Her long delayed honeymoon, a girls trip, a friend’s babyshower, and all this while she is excited about her MET gala appearance this month!

But enjoying the other things doesn’t seem the only concern. Simone Biles had even pointed that, “2028 seems so far away, and my body is aging. I felt it in Paris.” She then went on to give an example from the Frenc capital where she took home 4 medals in total, but her body, suffered the strain. She said, at one point, she took the elevator and her body literally collapsed. She was sick for 10 days in total. In fact, even a sprint in the garden with her friends left her with aches for 3 days. So honestly, the current status is: “We’ll see.”

All these factors of late have raised concerns about whether Simone Biles’ retirement can come sooner than expected. And adding to all of this is another factor that she recently spoke about at the Kentucky Derby. And that was her future kids!

Simone Biles talks about her future kids

When Simone Biles attended the Kentucky Derby with her husband Jonathan Owens, she was interviewed by E! News. And that’s when she opened up about their future kids. Biles said, “We are obviously gonna put them in sports in the beginning so they get their bearings and learn.” But that isn’t a hard and fast condition for them. Simone Biles further added, “But other than that, we don’t really care what they do as long as they find their passion.”

However, their plan to be parents? That’s definitely there. “I’ve always wanted to be a mother, have kids, and just like [Jonathan], he’s always wanted to be a dad, so it’s just really exciting.” So even if their children become musicians, they don’t really care. They instead think that’s still phenomenal. Well, this comes in at a time when Simone Biles is already appearing to be dicey about her gymnastics plans. So it’s certainly adding flame to the retirement fire. What do you think? Let us know below!
