Sidney Crosby Sends Alex Ovechkin Heartfelt Message After Successful NHL Record Chase

2 min read

“What a day, huh?” said Alex Ovechkin. The score read 2-1 in favor of the New York Islanders, but everything had come to a halt to celebrate Ovechkin’s successful climb to the summit of the NHL. An emotional tribute video played on the UBS Arena jumbotron, following which his family, and Wayne Gretzky were invited onto the ice. Fans, teammates, rivals—everyone came together to congratulate the Russian on his achievement.

And so did Sidney Crosby. After all, he knows a thing or two about greatness himself. Remember his 80th point of the season, where he became the first player to average a point per game for 20 consecutive NHL seasons? And just when Ovechkin buried his 895th goal of his career, how could he stop himself from not sharing words of admiration?

And it came out via a heartfelt post shared by the Pittsburgh Penguins’ X handle. “Congratulations on scoring the most goals in NHL history. Hope you have a great night celebrating with your friends and family, expressed the Penguins’ star while recalling the days they have competed against each other.

“It’s been an honor to compete against you all these years.”

Congratulations on the #Gr8Chase, Ovi! pic.twitter.com/wjNNTmQ3EH
