Michigan just came off an 8-5 season after winning it all in ’23. Not exactly what they were hoping for in Sherrone Moore’s first go as head coach. But in his second year, Moore is locked in, ready to reclaim the team’s old might. He is not hitting the rewind button on last year’s wins over OSU and Michigan State; he’s fast-forwarding to the future. And this spring practice at the Big House isn’t just about drills—it’s the runway for a massive summer recruiting push. The future is built, not found, and Moore seems to be taking that to heart. He just snagged a major victory off the field, locking in a coveted 5-star offensive tackle.
On March 31st, Michigan recruiting insider Aidan Sen dropped a key update on X—we can soon see 5-star OT John Turntine III in Maize and Blue. Well, his weekend visit to Ann Arbor left a lasting impression, setting the stage for a potential commitment after an official visit. But now, the real hint comes from his father, John Turntine.
His father’s latest statement makes it crystal clear why Michigan is in John III’s top five—and why the Wolverines are sitting high on his list. When asked about his son’s visit to Michigan, John Turntine didn’t hold back and said, “The trip went really well. Everyone was so nice. The campus felt very comfortable and big. The entire staff was very welcoming, and I appreciate the way they treated us. The communication was very good all weekend. All of the questions were answered.” But he didn’t stop there…
“My son’s thoughts on the campus were that he could see himself in the State of Big Blue. He really likes Coach [Grant] Newsome’s coaching style, and their accountability system is amazing when it comes to every aspect of their program for the student-athletes.” So, with words like that, Michigan just might have the edge in this high-stakes recruiting battle.
5 OT John Turntine III could see himself playing for Michigan and is looking to set an official visit following his unofficial visit over the weekend, his father @JohnTurntine tells me

Look, John Turntine III is a force in the trenches. The North Crowley standout has racked up over 35 offers from top programs nationwide. On top of that, at 6-foot-3.5 and 275 lbs, he’s ranked No. 12 overall and the No. 2 OT in the 2026 class. His talent speaks volumes, so it’s no surprise Turntine III, one of the most sought-after recruits nationally, has schools lining up. And Michigan? They’re going all out. When asked about Michigan’s standing in John III’s top 10, his dad said, “Michigan is in his top 5 schools. They are high on his list.” Landing him right now would be a huge victory for Sherrone Moore and Co.
When asked if John Turntine III would take an official visit to Michigan, his father didn’t hesitate and stated, “Definitely.” So, the family plans to sit down, map out their schedule, and lock it in. As of now, June 28-30 is the target. To be honest, that’s a major sign. Let’s be real, Michigan isn’t just in the mix—they’re a real contender to win.
But, like they say, you win some, you lose some—and Michigan just got a taste of that. While Moore got a strong signal from John Turntine III, another top offensive tackle slipped away…..
The Cantwell recruiting battle
Recruiting is a rollercoaster, and Michigan just went through a loop. One minute you’re up, the next you’re down—yeah, Jackson Cantwell’s no longer looking like a Wolverine. The battle for this five-star tackle is getting intense. On3’s Steve Wiltfong just dropped the latest, and after hitting up Miami and OSU, Cantwell capped off his spring visits with a stop in Ann Arbor. But Georgia? They’re still setting the pace. On top of that, Miami is pushing hard, Oregon remains a threat, and Michigan is fighting to stay in the mix. So, the only reason Cantwell skipped Eugene this spring? He’s already locked in an official visit.
Although many are chasing him, Miami is making a serious move for Jackson Cantwell right now. Well, the Hurricanes are gaining steam, and their stock is rising fast. Following that, Wiltfong noted, “Miami. They’re the program that stock is rising in this recruitment after taking this spring visit.” You know, Cantwell had already visited Coral Gables in the fall, but this time, he got a much deeper look. And it might just change everything.
Wiltfong broke it down—this visit was different. Because Cantwell got up close with Mario Cristobal, Coach Mirabal, and the staff. On top of that, Miami isn’t just talking about O-line development; they’re proving it. From Penei Sewell’s dominant run-blocking to Francis Mauigoa’s impressive blend of power and technique, Cristobal’s track record with offensive tackles speaks for itself. If you’re a top-tier offensive lineman looking to develop into an NFL-caliber player, Miami’s making sure you know exactly where you need to be.
