Sherrone Moore Makes Big Announcement for Kirk Herbstreit’s Son Whose Chances of Cracking QB Room Remain Slim

Michigan won the 2023 national championship after more than two decades of waiting. The feat should have been the moment to celebrate and make that win a platform to do great things. However, during the off-season following the title win, we saw Jim Harbaugh leaving for the NFL, and some of the major contributors departed in the NFL draft. The program lost many stalwarts like Blake Corum and Cornelius Johnson, but the major departure was that of their quarterback, J.J. McCarthy.

That was one of the reasons, along with high staff turnover, that Michigan didn’t deliver as per expectations and fell to just an 8-5 finish in 2024. This season, however, Sherrone Moore prepared well and delivered a 6th-ranked recruitment class in the country. But even in it, the most prized possession was stealing the generational prodigy Bryce Underwood from LSU. The QB comes with a $12 million tag and immense potential to lead the program. But the program still needs depth, right?

This is one of the questions a reporter asked Sherrone Moore during the press briefing on April 19th. The head coach acknowledged the depth issues but announced the arrival of one of the QBs whose father, Kirk Herbstreit, is a household name in America. The arrival of Chase Herbstreit has come with quite a bit of anticipation and fanfare.

We’ll look at different options and what we need to do.” The head coach discussed the depth of his quarterback room. “We’ve got Chase Herbstreit coming in this summer, you know, as well.” The head coach then mentioned the evaluation that needs to be done on the QBs. “So we’ll have Mikey (Keene) evaluate, see where Davis (Jadyn) is, and we’ll see, you know, what that situation looks like.”
