Something is brewing in college football, and it ain’t just another overhyped recruit hyping himself up on social media. This one’s different. This one’s got 670 pounds of deadlifting power, 22 offers knocking down his door, and a talent so raw it’s practically dripping with potential. And guess who’s making some sneaky, high-stakes moves to bring him into the fold? Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore is cooking up something special. And it’s got everyone’s attention.
On March 15th, Michigan insider EJ Holland hit X with some juicy news that had the Wolverine faithful buzzing. Standout linebacker Jaxon Pyatt, a freak athlete straight outta Arvada West High School in Colorado, is making his way to Ann Arbor for a spring visit on March 18th. And this kid’s got the stats and the swagger to back up all the hype.

Pyatt’s got numbers that’ll make even the most seasoned scouts do a double take. We’re talking a 4.56-second 40-yard dash, a 36-inch vertical, and a broad jump that stretches over ten feet. Oh, and did we mention he’s benching 375 pounds, squatting 585, and dead lifting a wild 670 pounds? Yeah, this kid’s practically built out of steel. The 6’2”, 220-pound linebacker is already ranked as the fifth-best prospect in Colorado and No. 35 among linebackers nationwide, and he’s still just a high school sophomore.
The buzz around Pyatt ain’t just smoke and mirrors. He’s got offers from schools like Boston College, Cal, Kansas State, and Colorado State. But the big dogs are sniffing around, too. “Ole Miss, it’s a cool setting in Oxford. I’ve been there for a camp too,” Pyatt mentioned. And when it comes to Oklahoma, Pyatt’s enthusiasm is pretty obvious: “I really like coach (Brent) Venables. He has a lot of knowledge of the position.” The kid knows his options, but there’s something about Michigan’s energy that’s got him curious.
And then there’s Moore, doing what great recruiters do—making players feel like they’re not just another name on the roster. Michigan has been pulling out all the stops during their spring visits, and Pyatt’s upcoming visit is just another sign of the Wolverines building something real.
Sherrone Moore and Michigan add firepower to coaching staff right before spring practice
But Moore ain’t stopping there. As Michigan preps for spring practice, he’s adding more firepower to his coaching staff. Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is back for his second season, joined by familiar faces like linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary, defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan, and defensive line coach Lou Esposito. And just when you think the defense can’t get more stacked, Esposito’s former assistant at Western Michigan, David Denham, is reportedly joining the Wolverines as the assistant defensive line coach.

This new hire’s no slouch either. Charlotte previously hired Denham as their defensive tackles coach before Michigan came calling. The dude’s got a rep for being a recruiting beast and a defensive mastermind. Bringing him on board is just another flex from Moore, proving that the Wolverines are dead serious about getting back to national prominence. And with spring practice about to kick off on March 18th, you can bet Moore’s got some big plans up his sleeve. Michigan finished last season 10th in total defense with a run-stopping unit that ranked fifth nationally.
The Wolverines are coming in hot, and Sherrone Moore’s recruiting game is on another level. With Jaxon Pyatt making his way to Ann Arbor and Michigan bolstering its coaching staff, things are heating up fast. And if Moore keeps stacking talent like this? Oh, it’s about to get real fun in the Big Ten.
