You know the saying, “An early bird gets the worm”? Well, Serena Williams is certainly living by that motto, and not just on the tennis court anymore! She’s taking her cooking game to new heights, and it’s a joy to watch. Check out that adorable reel of her making traditional gumbo with her daughter Olympia. Olympia, just six years old, is right by her mom’s side, helping with the prep work. The end result? A delicious dish that’s sure to satisfy any appetite. Her culinary adventures didn’t stop there; she’s still going strong with a new recipe every day. So, what’s cooking this time around?
Serena is putting in the hard work, just like she did during her tennis days. Now, in retirement, she’s proving herself to be a culinary force to be reckoned with. Since hanging up her racket, Serena has been focusing on various pursuits beyond tennis. She maintains an active lifestyle through a fun and balanced fitness routine. Additionally, she nurtures her entrepreneurial spirit through her venture capital firm, Serena Ventures. Family time is also a priority, emphasizing personal growth.
On March 17, she posted an Instagram story sharing her next dish for the night. She’s not just a legend on the court; she’s becoming the GOAT in the kitchen too! She posted a video of some vegetables in a baking tray, speaking in the background, she said, “Early morning prep for dinner. I’m gonna roast these and make the tomato soup. Yum.” This glimpse into her morning routine highlights Serena’s dedication to cooking, much like her disciplined approach to tennis.

Serena Williams‘s passion for cooking isn’t new; she’s been experimenting with recipes for years. Her favorite dishes include her mother’s chicken and rice, and since adapting to a vegan diet, she’s been whipping up vegan tacos and more. The 23-time Grand Slam champion is clearly enjoying her time creating dishes. She once mentioned, “I don’t have a ton of time to do it often, but I love cooking and it’s just kind of relaxing for me,” during an interview with Women’s Health in 2021.
Not to mention that since hanging up the racket, she’s been a busy bee with her entrepreneurial ventures. After a whirlwind start to 2025, including performing at the Super Bowl alongside Kendrick Lamar and launching her new clothing line with Janie and Jack featuring Olympia and Adira, Serena must need some time-out! But being the GOAT she is, dives into everything with gusto! Even when it comes to picking out fresh ingredients from her garden!
Williams tries out new recipe with some “wild” vegetable-picking
After sharing her gumbo recipe on Instagram, she’s ready for her next culinary adventure. On March 11, she posted a story from her garden, where she was having a “wild and free day.” She picked some fresh moringa leaves, excitedly telling the camera, “I am fresh picking some more moringa because I want to cook it. I got a ton of moringa at home but it’s all dry and I actually want to make it fresh because I was reading that you can cook it and eat it like spinach.”
Sharing her ideas for the dish, she added that she plans to pan-sear the moringa leaves: “I would pan-sear it for just a fresh second or two like a minute, and then eat it.” And, of course, she teased her fans with a promise of more updates: “I will let you know how that turns out.” As she exclaimed, “We’re wild today, wild and crazy!” it’s clear that Serena is loving every minute of this culinary journey.
With her garden providing fresh ingredients, Serena is taking her culinary skills to the next level. Whether it’s gumbo with Olympia or moringa from her backyard, Serena is proving that she’s not just a tennis legend but a culinary force to be reckoned with!
