Even when rosters appear settled, another domino can fall out without warning, as Syracuse is now finding out. The Orange just took a major hit on the defensive side. Former top recruit and promising EDGE rusher KingJoseph Edwards is officially entering the transfer portal, as confirmed by On3. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound freshman, who was one of the highest-ranked commitments in recent Syracuse history, will have four full years of eligibility remaining, making him a red-hot name to watch in the portal cycle.
While no landing spot has been confirmed, Edwards wasted no time stoking speculation. He reposted an Instagram story from a fan that read, “Come be a G and come be great ,” . Then came the comment that stirred the pot. Georgia safety and five-star standout KJ Bolden dropped in under Hayes Fawcett’s portal announcement post with, “Luv you twin .” That’s literally a public pitch, and it just might be working. The story and the comment have already sparked buzz about a potential move to the Georgia Bulldogs. Edwards was a massive recruiting win for Syracuse at the time, especially considering his offer list was stacked. But now, the Georgia native seems to have plans of moving closer to home.
Edwards’ exit is a tough blow for the Orange, who were banking on his high ceiling to elevate their defense over the next few seasons. But with his combination of size, speed, and untapped potential, the edge rusher’s next stop could be a much bigger stage. Wherever he lands, KingJoseph is a name to keep on your radar. The portal just got a lot more interesting.
This is a developing story….
