Two teams, neither with fresh legs, but both with something to prove. Rest has been a luxury this season, but the Fever and Storm have proven themselves, time and time again, that they run on grit. So when they meet for the first time this season, don’t be surprised if it’s decided in the final two minutes. After the last few performances, the Storm have climbed to the fifth spot, whereas the Fever have slipped to the seventh. One of them is eyeing the 6th, the other one’s trying to get away from it.
It’s a high-pressure night, but it’s even higher for veteran Erica Wheeler. The former Indiana Fever guard, who helped Caitlin Clark adjust to WNBA life, signed with the Storm this season. Her departure came with a mic-drop moment: “…go where you’re appreciated and not tolerated!” And now, as she’s suiting up against her former squad where she was tolerated, the anticipation is even higher. So this drama makes it a must-watch matchup…

How Things Might go Down…
First things first, ESPN’s matchup predictor gives the Storm a 64.1% chance of winning. Let us break it down for you:
The Indiana Fever are trying to end their tough Western Conference road trip on a high note. They are looking forward to a win against the Seattle Storm on Tuesday, June 24, before heading home. Currently, they are sitting at 6-7 for the season. The Fever have recently dropped two straight games. Both games slipped away in the fourth quarter after being in a competitive position. Making matters worse, star player Caitlin Clark is in a shooting slump. She has been hitting just 1-of-16 from three-point range recently.
Meanwhile, the Storm are rolling. Seattle has won three in a row now. They have improved to 9-5 after taking down the defending champion New York Liberty. Nneka Ogwumike has been on fire during this run. She is averaging 25.7 points per game, including a 26-point performance against the Liberty. There she shot an efficient 12-of-17 (70.5%). The rest of the starters struggled, though; they could combine for just 16-of-55 (29%) from the field. But Seattle’s defense forced 20 turnovers while only committing 10.
This marked their third straight win and sixth in their last seven games. It also included an impressive victory over the league-leading Minnesota Lynx. Seattle also has an edge, all thanks to their deep ties to Indiana basketball. Skylar Diggins-Smith, their starting guard, was Indiana Miss Basketball in 2009 and a star at Notre Dame. Former Fever players Erica Wheeler and Katie Lou Samuelson also now play for Seattle. And Mackenzie Holmes, a former Indiana University standout, is also on the roster. That familiarity means that the Storm understands Indiana’s system inside and out.
For the Fever, things are looking a bit bleak. After letting two winnable games slip away, they will now face a red-hot Storm team. Caitlin Clark needs to find her shooting form soon, as the Fever hope to avoid a three-game losing streak.
