Sean McDermott’s Training Camp Plans Confirmed for Buffalo Bills as Josh Allen Expected to Link Up With 48-TD Threat

The Buffalo Bills have been keeping quiet, while other franchises are making splashes with blockbuster trades, big-name signings, and some drama. Their biggest move this offseason? The contract extension of their QB Josh Allen. Other than that, Sean McDermott and the front office made no splashy free-agent signings, and no bold trades. Just added a few pieces like Joey Bosa (though fans were not exactly happy), WR Joshua Palmer, and Steelers’ Larry Ogunjobi. So what’s cooking in the Bills’ backyard?

Though the Bills have got this “we’re good with what we’ve got” vibe so far, the Sports Director, WHAM-TV, Mike Catalana, confirmed Sean McDermott and the Bills’ training camp plans on Sunday.

The #Bills will be back at St. John Fisher University this summer. @BuffaloPlus has learned that the team will return for training camp for a 24th time,” wrote Mike in his latest X post. The exact details are not finalized yet, but Mike added, “It is likely to be a similar schedule from the past few years. (In 2024, the camp went from July 24 to Aug 8 with 10 open practices for fans).” Time to buckle up for the 2025 NFL season.

Buffalo has held their training camp at St. John Fisher University every season since 2000, only missing it for two summers during the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, the team is also expected to add fresh talent to their RB depth, according to a mock draft.

The mock draft suggests RB reinforcement for Sean McDermott’s Bills

Bills RB James Cook is entering the final year of his $5.83M rookie contract. According to reports, the Georgia alum has been asking the team for a contract extension. It seems the RB doesn’t want to play out the final year of his deal. But the problem is, that Buffalo’s cap situation doesn’t have much room to breathe. According to Over The Cap, Sean McDermott’s team has only $2.2 million left, leaving them with little flexibility to offer James Cook a new deal.

Last season, the 25-year-old scored 16 rushing TDs, tying with Derrick Henry and Jahmyr Gibbs for the most in the league. ESPN writes, “Cook is a dual-threat back with lateral quicks and perimeter juice. His 16 rushing touchdowns last season were tied with Derrick Henry and Jahmyr Gibbs for the league lead.” James had at least 200 carries in his last two seasons. But here’s the thing -the RB played only 55% of the offensive snaps in 2023.

That number dropped to 48% in 2024, ranking him 38th among NFL backs. Now, if James is demanding a big contract. This might be the reason the Bills won’t be too keen to agree with him.

So, if the Bills and James Cook can’t reach an agreement, Ian Valentino has suggested another option. Draft a 48-touchdown playmaker in April. Sean McDermott’s team holds the No. 30 pick in the first round. And in Ian’s mock draft, the Bills select Ohio State Buckeyes star RB TreVeyon HendersonTreVeyon Henderson is an elite pass-blocker and explosive playmaker. There’s a decent shot he’ll be the best back in this class if he goes to the right situation, which Buffalo is,” writes Valentino.

The 22-year-old racked up 1,016 yards last season while scoring 10 rushing TDs. Henderson also caught 27 passes for 284 yards, adding 1 receiving TD. He has totaled 48 TDs in his college career. So, if the Bills have to part ways with James Cook, TreVeyon Henderson might get a shot to play alongside Josh Allen and Co.
