How good do you need to be to impress Scottie Scheffler? The world no. 1 stepped onto the course with some of his buddies recently. Trying to find his form before the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Scheffler was eager to up his game days before the event. However, things didn’t go as planned for the 2024 Player of the Year. He ended up losing to one of his friends. Interestingly, that said friend is not a professional golfer himself.
In fact, this alleged buddy of Scheffler, who beat him on the course, is a 10-handicap. And he’s not that good of a golfer, as per the drama slayer himself. Golf Digest interviewed Scheffler during a pre-tournament press conference a few hours ago. During the interview, the world no. 1 confessed, “I played last weekend and one of my buddies, who is not a very good golfer, he’s like a 10-handicap. He beat me in our side bet for the day”. It’s exciting to see even the best of the best get humbled at times.
However, Scheffler calling his 10-handicap buddy “not a very good golfer” is what caught the attention of the fans. And they didn’t shy away from speaking their minds about the situation.

A 10-handicap is by no means a bad feat. But the world no. 1 certainly has higher expectations from everyone around him. That didn’t stop one fan from commenting, “Who is not a very good golfer, is like a 10 handicap” cut right through my heart. I’m dead inside”. The statement certainly hurt the casual golfer.
