Saved by Father’s Struggle, Dwyane Wade Celebrates Dad’s Special Day

Forget neckties and grilling aprons; some father-son bonds are forged on golf courses and whispered stories. In this case, it’s the story of Dwyane Wade, celebrating his dad’s birthday, not with a raucous party, but with quiet appreciation. From tearful Hall of Fame tributes to life-saving warnings, their connection transcends the ordinary, proving that sometimes, the most powerful celebrations are the simplest.

“I cried like a baby. I cried for like three, 4 hours after I got home.” Dwyane Wade’s honest confession about his emotions when he heard his tribute to his father shows how close he has held Dwyane Wade Sr. in his life. His father reciprocated the feelings when he opened up about how he felt hearing his son’s HOF speech tribute to him. Wade Sr. felt that speech opened the door for all the fathers of America. “Like, we all heard that speech and we all cried to that speech,” he once said. So it goes without saying that the father-son duo adores each other’s presence in their lives. In fact, Wade somewhat owes his health as of now to warnings he had from his father’s medical history. No wonder that Miami Heat legend planned a personal day on the special occasion for his father.

The special day in discussion? Dwyane Wade Sr’s birthday the Miami Heat legend celebrates every year on March 17. This year, the Heat icon decided to spend the day with his father doing what they seemingly love to do: playing golf. “Morning golf for pops birthday,” Wade captioned one of his IG stories featuring him and Wade Sr. on a golf course. Yet another IG story featured Wade Sr.’s near-perfect swing on the course. “A windy day but a perfect day,” read the caption.

Early morning and birds chirping: there was a certain serenity that one could feel from the video. And considering The Flash recently opened up about the grave medical danger he once faced, it’s understandable for him to desire some calm. For those who missed the update, the Miami Heat icon was diagnosed with cancer at 41, leading to surgery that removed nearly half of his kidney. The confession from Dwyane Wade, however, came this year itself.

The Miami Heat icon revealed he was at a point where he could not shake the feeling that there was something wrong with his body. And because both his grandfather and father suffered from prostate cancer, he did not waste much time in getting a full body scan. What came to light was a cancerous kidney tumor back in 2023, which he got removed through surgery.

Even though he was out of danger, it must have been chaos to hold it in all this time until he made the information public this year. No wonder, he chose his father’s birthday celebration to be a much more calming affair than what it was last year.

Dwyane Wade Sr.’s birthday celebration last year was chaotic fun

Wade Sr.’s birthday celebration last year was nothing short of wild. And thanks to Heat icon’s Instagram stories, fans got a front-row seat to the chaos. From high-energy dancing to some seriously impressive sword skills, Wade Sr. turned his special day into a spectacle.

Kicking things off, The Flash shared a heartfelt birthday message for his father, setting the stage for a night filled with fun and laughter. And Wade Sr.? He wasted no time getting into the spirit, dancing with a belly dancer like he was the life of the party—which, let’s be honest, he absolutely was.

But the real highlight? Wade Sr. showing off his unexpected sword skills, leaving everyone both thrilled and slightly in awe. Even Wade couldn’t contain his excitement, sharing, “THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN. HAPPY BORN DAY TO MY POPS!”

However, from a party-hard intent last year to the need for some calm and personal time this year, Dwyane Wade’s love and excitement for his father’s special day remains the same.
